UPS honors Eight Belles

Thoroughbred Charities of America has received a $10,000 donation from the United Parcel Service Foundation, the shipping company’s charitable organization, in honor of fallen filly Eight Belles.
The gift, which was announced on Tuesday, will be designated to the TCA Eight Belles Memorial Fund, which directs donations to charities involved in Thoroughbred rescue and retraining, as well as research into catastrophic breakdowns.
The fund was created in response the flood of donations following the filly’s fatal breakdown after a second-place effort in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1).
UPS has prior experience on the racetrack as the exclusive sponsor of Big Brown’s Triple Crown campaign. The company’s logo was worn by jockey Kent Desormeaux in the Derby and the Preakness Stakes (G1), both races in which Big Brown was victorious.
“UPS has a long-standing commitment to making communities all over the world better by supporting organizations and engaging over 400,000 employees in community service worldwide,” said Ron Rogowski, director of UPS Sponsorships.
