A little off the thread, but I asked a maint/engineering why we couldn't remove the white from our paint scheme and just have that area on the jet as just shiny metal (American Airlines/Cathay Freighters, etc.). I was told it takes more work to maintain a shiny fuselage then a painted one taking into consideration the weight difference also.
