FedEx win despite Abdeen
27 May 2008
UMM AL QUWAIN — Abdeen’s century went in vain as his team, ETA Ascon, lost to FedEx by six wickets in the final of the Third UAQ Corporate Cricket tournament for ‘B’ division teams organised by Kashmir cricket Club at Umm Al Quwain grounds, a Press release said.
Abdeen scored 142 from 75 deliveries and hit 17 fours and three sixes to help ETA Ascon put on 234 runs after electing to bat. However, the total was not enough to defend as their rivals, FedEx, reached the target with seven balls to spare.
Abdeen hit the FedEx bowlers all over the field during his century. He was supported by Patil who made 34 and Shafqat Ali who contributed 27 from 21 balls with the help of one boundary and two sixes. Patil faced 30 balls during his stay and the crease and scored one four and one six. Amjad Ali chipped in with 11 off 10 balls and hit two sixes and one four as ETA Ascon lost six wickets to reach 234 in the allotted 25 overs.
Chanday and Yasir bagged two wickets each with the former giving away 54 runs and the latter conceding 43 runs.
FedEx started their reply in earnest, determined to reach the victory target. Jarnail Singh was FedEx’s top scorer with 80 made from 36 balls and hit three sixes and reached the ropes 11 times.
Sohail Singh was another FedEx batsman to reach half century when he made 59 from 39 balls and hit five fours and two sixes.
Hari Prasad scored a breezy 29 from 17 balls and reached the boundary once and over it twice.
Harish (34 not out) and Tariq (nine not out) saw their team home in the 24th over.
Sajid Hussain and Tariq Bashir were the umpires for the final.
Abdeen claimed two wickets for 28 runs while Amjad Ali and Tanveer picked up one each conceding 37 and 41 runs respectively.
Brief scores: FedEx bt ETA Ascon by 6 wkts. ETA Ascon 234 for 6 in 25 overs (Abdeen 142, Patil 34, Shafqat Ali 27, Amjad Ali 11; Yasir 2/42, Chanday 2/54). FedEx 235 for 4 in 23.5 overs (Jarnail Singh 80, Sohail 59, Harish 34*, Hari Prasad 29; Abdeen 2/28). Man of the final: Abdeen of ETA Ascon. Umpires: Sajid Hussain, Tariq Bashir.

I really don't want to rain on your parade, particularly because it is refreshing to see positive posts from Purple folks...but to compare a bunch of guys playing cricket while wearing FedEx shirts to a Stud like Big Brown is...not inspiring. I try not to take sides in the UPS/Fedex thing because I would sell one of my children to get on with either, but really...cricket?
I believe a Wicket is the bat that is used in Cricket. To the best of my knowledge cricket is a slower, less exciting version of baseball that last for many many hours.

A wicket is an "out" to put it in baseball terms. Behind the batter are three vertical poles about 3 feet high with two horizontal pegs that connect them.
One of several ways to make an "out" or "take a wicket" to be correct, is to bowl the ball past the batter (the bat in cricket is called a bat) and knock the horizontal pegs off the vertical ones. If you hit the "stumps" but the pegs don't fall, you have the classic "sticky wicket". And finally, if you didn't know it, in India, cricket is way bigger than some brown nag with a broken shoe.
