Default Junior Airbus/MD FO's

Question for those who are in the know... I am in the bottom 40 Airbus FO's. Assuming the next excess affects me, I am too junior to go the MEM MD. So my next choice (so I can keep WB FO pay and not have to sell my house) is to bid ANC MD.

NO I AM NOT BIDDING HKG!!

I am assuming I can go there because I can hold it, ANC that is... Also, for anyone that knows is the absolute minimum I have to stay is 18 months or can you return earlier if there is a subsequent bid so I can return to my original seat as soon as possible.

My thought process is that that would be the longest time for training and maybe I could delay it, stay in the BUS, and not have to move at all, (waiting for the 777 bid), and if I do have to go I could commute and not have to sell my new house here in MEM...

Thanks guys for the input ahead of time and as a quote go's from my favorite movie...

Wise move to stay clear of HKG...

And yes, if you are excessed or bid to relieve, you can go to ANC as long as there is someone junior to you already there. My understanding is that you can bid out early as long as you don't take the move package.

Lastly, I seriously doubt if you'll ever get sent there. The numbers don't support all the retraining required. It's all a ploy to scare people out of the country...

Only problem I see with the ANC move(I am in the same predicament), is that you are seat locked for the lateral bid vice moving up. I can barely hold Memphis, if there is an excess to force me out of the bus to ANC, I wouldn't be able to hold it so I would be stuck.

I updated my standing bid...no HKG to be found in it. I put ANC prior to going back to the 72. FWIW

Default NB for me!

I am in the same boat as you(sort of), but I am going to go NB before I go to ANC. My wife and daughter have made themselves a nice little life on The Planet and don't really want to start over. I also hear that the commute to ANC sucks. However, I am a cheapskate with a rather small mortgage. Can you downsize? That's my take, FWIW.

Default Contract Says....

24.E.1.C Down/Lateral Bid Freeze

A pilot who is activated in a crew status that requires ITU training based on a down/lateral bid shall be frozen in that crew status for 24 months, commencing on his actual activation date. A pilot is not eligible for a permanent crew position award requiring ITU training with a projected training date during that freeze period except under the following conditions:
  1. the pilot was excessed or down/lateral bid to relieve an excess; or
  2. the pilot down bid because of legal restrictions.
The way I read this is that since it is in order to relieve an excess, or being excessed the 24 month thing does not apply...Am I reading this right?? Shouldn't you be able to bid back??

Yes, you're reading it correctly. No freeze if excessed or if you bid to relieve.
