For Those Who Were Hired, and started class, at UPS Last Year...
#1
I know this is far fetched, but do you remember what the time frame was between the wizz test showing up at your door and the start of your class date? I'm looking into some contract flying if/when the furlough letter comes; but, I don't want to get locked into anything that I can't escape. Granted the recruiter said two things:
1) You never leave a contract early.
2) If you do (ie: it's been done) aviation is a small community and your good name will be tarnished (ie: we'll never hire you again if you need another contract filler).
So I'm wondering what the time frame was so that possibly next year sometime I will be able to give them ample notice. I don't want to sign my life away, but I also don't want to go non-current.
Any thoughts?

Buz T. called me two weeks from the start of my class date. I was able to give two weeks notice to the day. He said he wished he could have called sooner, but they were awaiting the results of my whiz quiz.
I can't remember when I took the whiz quiz, but I think it was less than three weeks out.

I was asked how soon I could get my test done? They told me they’d an opening in a class starting just 4 or 5 days later but they'd understand if I needed more time.
I took the following class which was 2 weeks later…

Your wizz test is only good for so many days. When that comes a class date is going to be offered once the results are back.
I know you have an interesting situation. This industry really does like to keep you on your toes. I would HIGHLY recommend that if you take the contract job and the UPS calls that you do WHATEVER it takes to come to UPS.
There was a 3.5 week gap for me.
P.S. That recruiter can pound sand where the sun don't shine! They are only trying to protect themselves. Don't worry about X company telling UPS about you breaking your contract. It is against the law for them to do that and UPS act upon that knowledge.

3 days after sending test back I was called by Buzz. Seven days later sitting in class.
Good luck.
PS. I think they are making up for my test by "random-ing" me every time I get to ANC.
that and these silent black helicopters keep following me around..........
