Default Nd Retirement Incentives

Understand there's a possible retirement incentive being considered to help those who have had enough, realize they've been here long enough. It's a plan that would offer pilots in the 60+ community that don't have 25 years of service (read full retirement) get a few extra percentage points towards retirement. For example, a pilot has 15 years working for Fred and is 62yrs old. If he takes the package, he'll receive credit for another 3 years he could have worked towards his pension, an extra 6%.

My question, which wasn't answered to my satisfaction was, what if he has 25 years in and is 62 years old. Then what? He gets credit for 56%? hmmm, I'd like to see it in writing first.

What do you think "O"? Could get rid of some dead-wood. Particularly if they were required to take the deal in 3 months or less. They might not have that glorious op to call in sick as much as they had planned on. Think of it as 1) cost savings through less training cycles and relocation packages. 2) Avoid furlough and Wall Street castigation. 3) productivity improvements, the ND's with the heavy sick calls and vacation time are out the door, replaced by whipper-snappers with little of either. How do you spell MBO?

If they have 25 Years and are 60 there is almost no reasonable amount of money that will motivate them to leave because it is largely not about the money.

You can lead a ND to the door, even open it for him...but you can't make him walk through!

Seriously though, that is a great idea...hope it's true!

It IS about the money. The 250$K a year they stand to make for five more years. I'd bet there are very little takers, as I really don't think it's about the percentages, it's about the monthly income for these guys. Besides, didn't someone say that O said the company was not considering retirement buyouts? Where'd this new rumor come from?

With 25 years plus a couple of percentage multipliers, their retirement pay is above $130K. They are working for less than F/O pay. It's not about the money. It's about kids that don't talk to them, wives that are happy they're gone, expensive toys trying to make themselves happy, eating at McDonald's around the globe, commanding respect because of a fourth stripe, and finally, not having a life.

My friend flew with a ND with 30+ years here. When asked why he is staying around, he replied that it was his business, and too bad for you junior guys. I'd put the number of takers at around 0.01%. Kind of like my BAC (for now).

Retirement pay ~130K or yearly pay at 48CH x whatever a ND pay rate equals? That is a question many NDs are going to have to ask themselves very soon.

In a previous life I was a 28 year old 727 f/o flying with a 70 y/o s/o. Around the 3rd day of a 5 day trip I asked the old guy why he still did "this." He had a better answer than I thought I was going to hear ...

He said, "If I retire, my ex-wife gets half of my retirement. "F" her ... I'm going to fly till I die!"

I have to admit, it made me laugh ... I could appreciate his position
