Default FedEx in talks to buy Dutch rival TNT

Seems as though the big picture boys are always on the look out for a deal. Since we couldn't work out an acceptable plan with DHL, guess it makes sense to buy the other big guy in Europe. Maybe things are not quite as dire as they seem??

Interesting times..........

Does that mean we'll now have "Orange guys", to go along with the Purple and Silver guys?

Maybe we won't need that pesky LOA for a CDG FDA afterall.

Tupolev 204? That's the seven-fifty-seven-ski, isn't it?

I wonder if they would keep the 747s this time.

It's a 757 with round head rivets:

I used to see the 204's back when Orville, Wilbur, and I used to Fly JFK-Cairo.

I wonder if the -400s will be spun off ?

The Fli.

This story was going around last year with us buying them. I think one would want their routes and possibly Liege base rather than the aircraft themselves. (747s wouldn't be bad though)

Default Chump Change

Part of the reason for posting this was to put in perspective the situation of the company buying up the lines to Contract minimums at the cost of one million dollars a month. This BLG buy up is per the contract, not out of the goodness of the companies heart. 12 million dollars per year is chump change to FedEx.

The bean counters can save 12 million bucks on paper by switching to peanuts vice cashews in the scooby snacks. The big point here is, we the pilot force are the Easy way to save money. We are emotional, not very united at the moment and our contract is very easy for them to change. The company intends very much to take advantage of us, not out of the goodness or evilness in their heart, but because it makes good business sense and we let them. If we were in a bull market with cheap fuel, do you think the company would offer out of the goodness of their heart anything extra above and beyond the current CBA? Don't think so.

Look at all the construction at MEM, GSO, IND and almost every other city we service. We could have bought brand new 757F's from Boeing a few years ago for a song just to keep the line open until the 787's ramped up.... But no, we chose to buy 20 year old ones and spend twice the money on them.....Brilliant! Don't even want to get into all the sponsorships that FedEx doles out. FedEx buys trucking companies, printing/office companies and all sorts of other international rival companies almost at will. All these expenditures are driven by a contract, but I am guessing they are a little bit harder to modify than the pilot CBA.

While I am glad to work for a company that is very business savy and can afford to do all these things, I just don't want them to look at my paycheck to supplement their good or bad business decisions. There is a tremendous amout of waste in a company this size and I am glad to help eliminate all we can find. But we have a hard won contract and we need to stick to it until the environment dictates otherwise, and I don't think we are there yet.
