If they were aware of it when we became aware of it, I would have expected something along the lines of "Over the weekend, there were..."
"This afternoon" indicates to me that they first became aware of it this afternoon...
And they wonder why we go to APC for current info instead of Alpa.org

Now we know the other reason for the CDG delay. If we buy TNT then FDX can continue to fly all those routes with TNT pilots. Additionally, since our "best in the industry" scope clause allows it, FDX can then fly all the airbus SIBA routes with TNT airplanes and pilots. In fact, since TNT already flys A-300s FDX could just "transfer" the european airbuses to TNT and let the TNT group grow intra europe. Maybe FDX corporate could form a new subsidary to FDX Express, they could put TNT, Tradewinds, CanEx, Okay (China) into one group and call FDX Express Lite. With only a little effort they could purchase Gemini and add Mil Charter to the FDX Express International platform. Glad we have that iron clad scope.

Ditto...I wrote numerous emails to our union concerning this exact situation and was told, "the company will continue to use our pilots to fly international routes." Our best in the industry scope will allow a code-share agreement where we fly TNT freight in the US and they fly our freight in Europe. I discussed 1.B.4 of our contract with WH and MA BEFORE our last CBA. I would of given up VEBA and SIG chapters of CBA (VP of FLT Ops can just say, I disagree) for better scope language. Why do we have such a lousy FDA LOA, because DW elected not to pursue closing the loops of 1.B.4 of our CBA.

I hate to rain on your doom and gloom, but those are the old 3-man cockpit Airbuses. Not the same type rating. That's why our type ratings say A310 on them. Sadly, the rest of your rant is probably pretty close to true though.

The rampers were asking us about that yesterday over here...
The captain and I were discussing it, and we figured the company would just buy them, and their new name would be FedEx Europe, yet another FedEx company, seperate from Express.
I just bought a new light switch!

An interesting read gentleman ---- the first line says a lot.
Perhaps it's time to go check the specific "scope verbiage" included in the FDA LOAs.

FedEx and TNT a good strategic fit in Europe
By CNA Staff
FedEx Corp is reported to be interested in acquiring TNT, which seems to suggest that it does not want to rely on organic growth to strengthen its position in the global express market.
Although combining two of the world's leading players would put strong pressure on the other two integrators, UPS and DHL, overall, the competitiveness of the industry looks set to remain intact, according to Datamonitor, a provider of online data, analytic and forecasting platforms for key vertical sectors.
Following a Financial Times report that FedEx is in talks to buy the Dutch company, the share price of TNT, Europe's second biggest express delivery service, rose by a record 32 percent to US$38.94 in Amsterdam trading last week.
The biggest gain since the Hoofddorp, Netherlands-based company's June 1998 initial public offering.
FedEx, which reported negative results in the last quarter of its financial year and subsequently issued a pessimistic outlook, is heavily reliant on the slowing US market.
As a result, it now appears to be looking for radical ways to improve its position in the global express sector, the Datamonitor report said.
Despite the weakened US dollar, the effects of a tougher economic environment and rising fuel costs appear to have sparked FedEx's renewed interest in the acquisition of Dutch mail and express rival TNT.
FedEx has already been trying to reduce its dependence on its home market and the use of air networks by building a stronger presence in the European market, as well as investing in its Asian network.
Preliminary results from Datamonitor's upcoming European Express Market Map suggest that, despite showing decreasing growth rates, the European express market is still in a good state, with the B2C and Eastern European markets acting as its main growth drivers.
TNT is particularly well positioned to capture any growth in the B2B markets as it has a strong road and air network that is operational in all the key markets.
The company also boasts a strong position in emerging markets.
FedEx and TNT have reciprocal geographic strengths and, as TNT has lost its monopoly in its home mail market, a combination of the two companies appears to make strategic sense.
The merger would also put significant pressure on European market leader DHL, which is trying to recover its market position in the US, where it continues to lose money.
Should the tie-up be completed, the effects would be far-reaching, says Datamonitor Logistics and Express senior analyst Erik Van Baaren.
"Significant pressure would be placed upon DHL and UPS, given that they would have to compete with a global player capable of exploiting greater economies of scale and serving the needs of globally operating companies more efficiently as further internationalization of the industry takes shape."
Perhaps it's time to go check the specific "scope verbiage" included in the FDA LOAs.
