Fed Ex app. question.(Last 5 years live in U.S.)
While i was filling out my Fed Ex app. there was a notation stating that the applicant must have resided in the U.S for the previous 5 years. Is that a hard and fast rule or is there any flexibilty?
I am a U.S. citizen, former military, and work as a 400 capt. for a part 121 U.S. carrier. In addition i currently posses a geneva convention card which was issued through my company, and is to be carried on person while we operate in and out of U.S. military bases worldwide while supporting the military lift.
The only exception noted on the app. form was a waiver for time spent serving active duty overseas.
It seems to me that this would disqualify me in applying the way i read it. Does anyone have any input or knowledge about this matter as i would greatly appreciate the help.

I spoke to recruitment on this issue for a friend of mine who was desiring to work for Cathay while he hoped for FedEx.
I mentioned that the individual would maintain a residence in the USA. The reply I received stated, "Where would he be during training?" I said he'd be trained in Hong Kong but based in the USA. "Where would he reside while in training?" I said, "Hong Kong". I was told that his training event would constitute "residing" outside of the USA and thus he'd have to wait five-years to re-apply.
This is a part of the FedEx postal service contract.

That doesnt make much sense! Lets say you work for a US airline but the sim training is overseas, or you do TDY overseas for a few months, yet still flying to/from the US. By this definition you would not be able to work for FedEx.

You heard wrong. FDX only cares about residency, it doesn't matter where he trains, it matters where he pays taxes and whether he claims an income tax exclusion or not (330 days out of country). If he lives in the US, he's a resident, plain and simple.
Like Fedex would ever check where he trained, come on now. Jesus, Fedex use to train people in Germany and Finland. Also, nice job resurrecting a 3 year old thread.
