you or us??

Coming from someone who was wanting this deal to happen, I think it is dead. UPS claims they are still in talks but you know "their lips are moving" routine with our management here!

I thought the goal was to keep the volume on your airplanes. So what's your bottom line if they offer to put it back on?

The same as it's always been SB. No give backs. They can use us, or not.

We don't really need the "deal." We've already shared (with FDX) most of the volume we would have picked up had the deal gone thru as originally envisioned. Whatever is left is most likely "truckable" and they can surely find someone cheaper than UPS or FEDEX to move that for them. The flyable stuff is g-o-n-e.

Actually, no unless it's not enough. ;)

How long have you been afflicted with this condition?

Jungle,
You are correct the deal isn't dead yet but it looks unlikey that they will reach an agreement. Here is quote from a recent Reuters article.

On a conference call with analysts, Davis said talks with DHL continue, but because of DHL's reduced needs as the U.S. economy slows, "we are finding it very difficult to reach an agreement."
In an interview with Reuters on Tuesday, Deutsche Post CEO Frank Appel said the "coming weeks will show whether we will come to an agreement."

In any case, there isnt enough freight left for anyone to get too excited about, except of course the few Astar or ABX pilots that manage to keep their jobs.

And Side Show, as for the bottom line, ask ABX pilots, they are in contract negotiations. I would like to know as well. Astar already has a contract and as HVY said there is no interst in give backs.

At some point I would think, one could/should get past the pride at all cost thing.

So let's say some other company (not DHL) approaches ABX to cover their lift, and once crunching the numbers ABX management presents "the deal" to the pilot group in essence saying that (for argument's sake) they'll put 250 back on the payroll, but it will be for 30% less than they were making.
At what point does a paycheck trump feelings/ego/whatever you want to call it?

I ask this in all seriousness, as when I was furloughed at two different carriers I swallowed my pride and took less to pay the bills until I could manage better scratch. If I stood on ego alone maybe I would have ended up managing a Quiznos while holding my head high on principle.

What will it take for some...blowing up DHL headquarters?

I'm not, the comment was in reference to how unbelievably ****ed off some of us can be while being so incredibly lucky. Life is short, you should know that.

I think DHL is "talking" behind the scenes with management and the Ohio govt. ABX or Astar will be flying the 100K packages. The deal will not happen. Too small for UPS. They are got the Fruit off the tree.

The seeds will most likely go to ABX and CVG. Astar DC8's and A300's dont have the legs and the 8 is going to be beer cans soon.
