Default FDX 777 Rumor

The latest rumor going around is that Air France is canceling their 777 order, thus affecting our orders in a positive manner. Can't find anything yet on the internet to confirm, but was wondering if anyone else has heard this "Rumor"?

AFA, the Launch Customer?

I'm leaning towards unlikely but I've been wrong before, just yesterday as a matter of fact.

Well, in my view you were 'incorrect' but hardly wrong...

Does the 'rumor' give any reason to why they would be canceling their order, and what 'positive manner' specifically means?

On May 19, 2005, French carrier Air France placed an order for five Boeing 777 freighters plus options on three additional airplanes.

As far as positive manner, it would mean that our deliveries would move up by 5 tail numbers.

May be true. Rumor has it that we are getting 2 or 4 of AFs birds. You know how that goes though, I will believe it when I am sitting in the seat.

Wouldn't Air France sell their slots at a premium to other airlines further down the list who want the airframes now?

Seems odd that they would just cancel when the 1st of 7 is about to be delivered in Dec/Jan

Yeah - I know they ordered them. The question was what it the reason they want to delay/cancel now?

And, with widebody's parked and the economy the way it it, I doubt very much we would want to pay $$$ to get one earlier than scheduled.

Maybe Boeing will sweeten the pot.......

Maybe they are just trying to delay deliveries without penalty and need some one to fill their slots. Or.....maybe they can't find anyone to buy their slots. Or......maybe it's a bad rumor. Or.........

When there is a cancelation, the manufacturer has to fill the slots on the line or take significant losses based assets already invested into the manufacture of the now canceled jets. If the industry is strong, then the airline generally has the right to sell these slots and pocket a little cash.

In the current environment, the opposite would be the case. When this occurs, the manufacture will offer these slots with a discount to induce a reluctant customer to take the earlier slots.

Fred Smith loves playing the game and loves to get aluminum at a discount.

Its plausible...
