UPS training/contract question

I could be an FO in ANC, and after looking over the airplane, it was tempting. It would be a miserable commute, especially from Florida. I have a good friend who got an apartment downtown, lives there part time, and loves it. It can be a great place to live, if one is able to make that commitment.

Those guys that had to have the seat back so bad that they took an ANC spot and commute from half the world away were really dumb. The wanking printed in the IPNN about jumpseats gets old as well. They get zero sympathy from me.

I do not need to get back to the left seat (and will not be able to for a while at my seniority. I'm hoping for a 757 FO anywhere). I looked forward to coming to work when I was up front. We have great airplanes to fly, and get paid well to fly them to some interesting places. As a senior FO, I will have great schedules. I will work less than half the year (26 weeks minus 4 weeks of vacation equals 22 weeks on the road per year, not counting 2 more weeks of sick leave available. Though, for the most part, I've max'ed out the sick buy-back every year.) It is really a great job, and no person would leave it unless they have something they really want to do that they cannot accomplish in the 30 weeks of off time per year that come with the job as it is.
Quit yer bellaching already <BG>
Rott,
The contract had the S/O rules written since the first contract. Standard boilerplate language back when everyone had the 3 seats. Not written as a senior vs junior issue, just protecting seniority. A good thing in most respects and this piece was rarely utilized when it was first written. Realize that our contract does not always recognize senority as primary (F/O to Capt upgrade has priority over Capt seat slide for example)
In any case, as Roberto pointed out, UPS would not have hired anyone to place in those seats, UPS just accepted that it was cheaper to let them sit as an S/O. Cheaper in the long run. (Same reason no furloughs)

I've worked for the really bad non-scheds and the work here is a dream. I love the airplanes and I moved up to ANC for quality of life, and the schedule. My family and I absolutely love it up here and can't imagine moving away (I guess I shouldn't be writing this. ITS A HORRIBLE PLACE FOR A FAMILY)
Unfortunately I have been displaced to the Engineers seat, but I am not bitter. I just have to make the same commute as the rest of the commuters. Unfortunately its the other direction and hopefully only for a couple of years.
Anyway I just wanted to put the glass being filled the other way for a change, and shouldn't my furlough notice be printing as we speak?
