I think he is talking about the guys that just happen to have a Mil Lv requirement for two days of training on 20DEC that just happens to the same day he has a 15 day around the world trip. Let someone else be away for Christmas and New Years. I've met a few that sound like they are as much interested in serving themselves as the country.

Opinions please...Thanks in advance.
Dave--I have some free advice from someone who made the transition from the mil last year to UPS. You might want to be very careful how you come across. Is first year pay at FedEx low? Hell yes. By any measure it is. Keep in mind that many of our fellow pilots who come up through the regionals do it on less than what your pension will be. How can you be crying about making 85k (FedEx + pension) your first year?? Get a 0% credit card, or cash out some savings like everyone else does. Also, I'd focus on the interview before making plans to fly widebody airplanes. You are on the bottom of the totem pole now and your 3000 hours of AMC time don't mean squat. I do not mean to sound harsh, but your tone seemed a little arrogant. I apologize in advance if I misunderstood you.

On another note, the union cannot put a ban on its members picking up overtime. That would be considered a job action since it violates the contract. But I would not be doing it anyway unitil the new contract is signed.

So being in the military gives you a right to alter your schedule as you please without regard to your fellow pilots.

Not to mention how many times do I hear of you military guys working your schedule to do mil leave and while the rest of us have to pick up your schedule. I hope you get on with FedEx. Its a great company.
Your right, you can fly all the DFT, VLT or sell back VAC and you are not only within your rights but no one (within the union) will know, let alone call you to task for it. If you want to do your bit to impede the process for improving your contract, go ahead, only, you will know the truth on how you failed to do your (little) bit to assure a fair and reasonable contract.

I'll take it you (all) feel your outside the normal 10%. I think if you look around you'll find plenty of, "I got mine, FU" er's posting on this board.
Being part of a group is tough for some people. Collective action, self sacrifice (if you can call not working or days off, sacrifice) and working toward a common good/goal. Some people can only deal with looking out for #1.
