Red,

I am with you on that point, I was impressed by ABX's payscale, on the other hand, Amerijet's makes me puke, I talked to a few former AJ drivers, they knew every creative way to ground an airplane on the outstation.

But lately management has found the way to close down companies with good contracts and shift the lift to the cheapest bidder, cust cutting is always at the expense of the employees.

I will strike today if asked!

Amerijet has been shopping for 76s for a couple of years. It has nothing to do with the pilots. If ABX management put the planes on the market, it was just a matter of who bid for them. I don't have a stake on either side, but use some common sense and don't blame a pilot group because they weren't fortunate enough to get hired on at ABX wages. They are flying the equipment provided to them.

Red Baron 02-19-2009 01:39 PM

Cruiseclimb,

Amerijet pilots accept substandard contracts. It's their own fault they don't have a industry standard contract. If a company can't afford industry standard then they shouldn't be in the business. The fact that Amerijet wages are ridiculous, was a huge factor in the "dry lease" of the 767's. They literally cost pilot jobs at ABX Air. You tell me how that's acceptable?

Beware that the 767's you are receiving from ATSG are coming from ABX Air. ABX Air has a pilot contract that does not allow them to dry lease. They are trying to get around this by transfering the aircraft to another ATSG company (CAM) and using them as the lessor. Shady, dirty, airline management BS.
I would like to think you would care that fellow pilots are being screwed by this scam, but I'm sure you're happy to have our 767's. I hope you never have to go through what I and currently 187 pilots and their families are dealing with. And if you ever have been furloughed, shame on you! Over 400 pilots will be unemployed by the end of June.
This deal did not cause the furloughs at ABX Air, but it gave ATSG an excuse to pursue contracts that will "Not" keep ABX Air pilots employed. So, as most of you are gloating about your new fleet, I just hope you never need a jumpseat from a former ABX Air pilot! Also, enjoy the training program in Wilmington. It will be ABX Air Check Airmen training and evaluating you. ABX's training program is one of the toughest in the industry. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

You're not gonna start another ANTI-TRUST rant are you?

Red Baron 02-19-2009 01:49 PM

SLPII,

Anti-trust, no. According to Teamsters 1224 this deal is illegal because ABX Air and 1224 are in federal mediations and this dry lease is considered self-help on the part of ABX Air. Neither party has been released to self-help. ABX has been threatening the pilot group with dry leases since last summer. Not to mention it's a huge scope violation!

ABX Pilots,

I just wanted to say I'm sorry for what's happening to you. I'm a pax guy, & in no way involved with freight. But everytime I hear DHL, Wilmington, or see an ABX plane I get sick. I can't even imagine what you're going through.:(

I know these words don't bring jobs back, but at the very least they let you know you aren't forgotten. I wish you all the best.:(

Jet320,

Thanks for the info. I'll pass it along. Who do you work for?

Thanks for the kind words and good luck to you also.
