Only flights in excess of 12 hours are required to have bunks so most of the MD-11's do not have them. If they do not have bunks, they will have 2 courier seats in the back that recline similar to a business class seat on most airlines.
Some FedEx guys bring a sleeping bag and a pillow and sleep on the floor (I do). Most Captains seems OK with the idea but make sure to get their approval.
And welcome to the FedEx jumpseat, seems like we didn't get many "offline" jumpseaters for a long time. Latly I've seem more and more. Glad to return the favor.

I used FDX a lot getting up to ANC. I will say it seemed easier getting a seat out of IND to ANC. MEM fills up quick, so if you are not in MEM, or if your gonna be Stnby for the Jumpseat out of MEM, try IND, I usually could get confirmed out of there more often. Ops in IND is Great too.
Also, NWA has a 747-200 out of ORD to ANC almost daily, that is probably the best kept secret to get in and out of ANC. They have 4 first class seats up stairs, very very very comfortable. They can take those 4 plus one more in a jumpseat up by the pilots. It leaves ORD around 3-4am, changes every once in a while. First come first serve, so if you get to ops around 1-1:30am, you should be golden. If you need help getting from Terminal to Ops, send me a message I will let you know. I could get there in about :30 mins, for 5 bucks. Cheapest way to ops!!!

Thank for all the replies. To all the FedExers that use us, glad to reciprocate. AV8ER13, I will probably get in touch with you. I'll PM you as soon as they fix my PMer. Or, if you don't mind, try PMing me, and we'll see if I am able to respond. Is the passenger terminal within walking distance from the cargo ramp in ANC?

I took one the other day. Great crew and a J/S'ers.
Don't forget your change of clothes. This isn't the pax airlines.
Sleeping on the floor is the norm not the exception.
PS, I would suggest not using UPS for the ANC-SDF-ANC runs. FULL FULL FULL.
Plus you get kicked off all the time unlike FEDX where 24 hrs out you are "good".
Pokey, ANC shuttle to terminal........ 907-677-1074

Well, UPS is full, NWA cancelled, so it looks like I'll be trying to ride the old purple tail up north. I'll be arriving in the passenger terminal, and was wondering what to tell the cabbie as far as directions to where I need to go for check in. Anybody got the street name or address? Thanks in advance.

There is a phone in baggage claim that has some #'s next to it. I believe 19 will connect you to our crew bus system. Tell them you would like a ride from the terminal to the AOC. They will pick you up outside of baggage claim under the FedEx sign.
