Default Vacation Question

Sorry to ask this question. I've been diving in the contract trying to figure out the answer with no luck. I have 8 vacation days in May(48 hrs). I was awarded reserve but can only slide and extend to cover 9 R-days (36 hours). Will the company remove 3 more reserve days to get me to my 48 hours of vacation, or will the 12 hour surplus go into my vacation bank? Thanks.

Look at Section 7G under Reserve line holders. The whole deal is explained.

They will remove the days you may have to call them to have it fixed on your sched. The vacation days do not even have to touch the R days.

8 days gets you 8 days of reserve off and the vacation bank is reduced by 8x the R day value for the month. If you want to use more hours then you need to complete a reserve EXTENSION, all very clear in section 7. It is all accomplished in the bid period processing window. Buffer days can be waived and are added to the ends of the 8 days or the number you extend. Try and get your R days remaining to reside AFTER your vacation days so you are leveled...

look at the bid period processing summary after you are done.
should depict your buffer days and expansion days to give you an idea of which days Scheduling is blocked from putting R days onto.

Perfect world, your vacation is at the beginning of the month so that you will receive leveling for every R day. shoot, some seats 48 hours will put you so close to exceeding RLG that you might wind up with bonus bucks if scheduling drops a trip on ya

Thanks all for the info. I have a 17 days footprint of days off when you include the slide, extension, and the buffer days. However, I do have 6 R-days left, that can't be reached by this footprint. So, am I understanding correctly that scheds will drop some of these 6 days b/c my 17 day footprint only knocked out 9 R-days? Thanks

How many days did you extend? Whatever the total number of days beyond the 8 that you chose (up to the max allowed of course), you will get an R day removed. If you have more R days still left then CRS will remove those days to get your days equalized.

I extended 5 days. Basically I knocked out 9 R-days. This is worth approx. 36 hrs of vacation. I have 48 available. Will CRS randomly knock out 3 more days, even though they don't touch my vacation, slide, extension, buffer footprint?

You get to request which days you want to stand reserve,
if I understand the math the company gave you, 8 days + 5 day extension means 13 R days are going to be gone.

Doesn't matter whether any of them actually are in the footprint of your vacation. The slide and the buffer will prevent CRS from putting any remaining R days on those particular days.

bid period processing has a place where you can submit you're I'd like to do my remaining R days on these calendar dates.....kind of like a VTO line. Except, I've had better luck with the vacation reserve line rebuild versus VTO

Did you actually read Section 7G ? Reserve vacation extension has nothing to do with touching R days. It is merely a formula that lets you know, given the R day value for your seat, how many days of Reserve your 48 hours is worth. If you did the extension worksheet on the Bid Processing page and it said you could extend 5 days, you now have 13 days of vacation. You owe the company 2 R days. If you have any R days on your original line that don't conflict with the vacation or buffer, that's where scheduling will put your 2 days. If all your scheduled R days are covered by vacation or buffer, they will be put on days otherwise free of duty. In the Vips section marked Reserve Line Reconstruction, you can submit preferences for where those R days fall. Just as a "for instance," say your 8 days were at the beginning of the month. All you scheduled R days are in one block at the end of the month. You extend 5 days. You now have 13 days of vacation and only have to sit 2 days of reserve (15 R days - 13 Vacation days.) Since your 13 days plus 48 hr buffer only conflicts with the first 2 or 3 days of your scheduled Reserve block, your 2 days of Reserve duty will fall somewhere in the remaining 12-13 days of the original R day block. It's up to you to let scheduling know where you want those days. However, much like a VTO or Custom line, it's only a preference. Your final results, like your mileage, may vary.
