When I do the math, it chaps my hyde to think these ba$tards (UPS airline management) thinks they are going to SAVE money by furloughing the cheap seats !!!
I'd have to say that our staffing on the Z is probably at least adequate. I'm not sure what the yardstick is, but there isn't much open time and there looks to be enough reserves to cover whatever doesn't get picked up. When they get into the heavy training fur ball though, who knows what is enough reserve coverage?

I don't know what I am going to do personally. Extra time off is always welcome but it seems that some other airline management got to us first and managed to extract $100,000 a year in concessions from our household already.

The whole thing chaps my hide, stories like the one that you relayed don't help. They are playing us, and I don't see how we have much choice but to be played

Our choice seems to be the vaseline jar WITH the sand, versus the one without the sand !

It comes down to the jar being half full or half empty. When the jar is full of petroleum jelly, it probably doesn't matter much

I run into my Capt for the bid period, so I ask who he flew with. Turns out it was a Capt JA'ed to the right seat. Nice coin if you can find it ... 250% for approx 18 hours ! I'm guessing that Captain grossed approx $10,000. For an FO trip that would have grossed me $2250.

Sorry, but it's 150% for a JA, not 250%.

The first couple weeks of the bid, at least 2 ONT FOs were flying Z trips due to lack of coverage. I think it was 3-4 but can only think of 2 right now.

They're gonna close ANC soon anyway so this JA-ing captains will stop!

I hope he was on reserve days at the time. According to the contract, that is the only time this is kosher.

yes, 150% no matter what seat. The ONLY time 250% comes into play is Late Arrival Pay. Like 48 hours late or something around there.

c. Except as noted below, when a crewmember performs
duty which is assigned through the junior available
process, the flight pay and credit shall be calculated as
outlined in paragraph B.3.a. above, and shall be paid to the
crewmember at a rate of one hundred and fifty percent
(150%) as a separate event regardless of whether his pay
period credit is above or below the applicable pay period
guarantee. When a reserve Captain is junior manned to fly
as a First Officer on a scheduled day of reserve duty, he
shall receive an additional fifty percent (50%) credit for pay
purposes for that assignment. The additional pay and
credit generated by junior manning will not count toward
the credit cap contained in paragraph F.1. of this Article.
