They like to hold on to enough reserves in case someone calls in sick at the last minute, gauge swaps, and other reasons. Paying a little draft isn't that big a deal.

Careful, Sleepy. Trip 301 on the 25th is a qual check for a captain finishing transition from the DC-10. Since he is still in the rhealm on training, it was assigned to him. The f/o got it on reserve.

I appreciate your voice of caution, I was just offering up some info that I had received. What pilots do in their free time is their own individual decision.

I have to throw the flag on this one. I'd like a few legitimate reasons to block a calendar please. The only people you are blocking from seeing your work schedule are those people (pilots) that access your "calendar" through VIPS. Only other pilots use VIPS. Selecting block calendar in VIPS does not affect anyone other then us pilots. I'm slightly open to listening to why a pilot would have a legit reason to hide his work schedule for other workers. The obvious reason of I don't want others to know; how much/little I am working, which disputed pairings I'm on, how I'm dropping trips for union then flying draft, how my buddy the scheduler is sliding me draft under the table, etc......I see lots of reasons to hide, but none I'd call legit.
