UPS CEO Sees U.S. Recession Ending by End of 2009

On a bright note today, Reuters reports that UPS chairman and CEO Scott Davis said today that the U.S. recession would be over by year's end. Speaking at the National Summit in Detroit, Davis also said the biggest declines associated with the downturn had already occurred.

FedEx Sees Pick-Up in Air-Cargo Volume (TheStar.com, June 15)
FedEx believes the drop in air transportation volume has bottomed out and hopes volume will pick up later in the year.
FedEx vice-president of legal and regulatory affairs Steven H. Taylor said the company currently did not see as big a cargo volume decline as it did earlier in the year.
“Similar to the aviation industry’s forecast, we are anticipating lower volume this year but we hope to see an increase as the year progresses.
“This year, we are not optimistic of recording the kind of volume we experienced a couple of years ago.
“And the volume contraction in our domestic market (in the United States) is much smaller than the contraction in our international market,” he said.
Taylor was speaking to StarBiz at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) AGM and World Air Transport Summit last week.
IATA forecast that global air-cargo demand would decline 17% and airlines are expected to carry 33.3 million tons of cargo this year against 40.1 million tons last year.
Air-cargo traffic started to decline in June last year and had dropped by 23% year-on-year in December. The air-cargo industry moves about 35% of the value of goods traded internationally and is a leading economic indicator.

I personally hope they don't cancel it. I'm looking forward to working part time for 6 months out of the next 2 years and spending time with my son.

I don't see 'em canceling it. In fact, I'll bet a dollar that they'll be back for more $aving$ next spring...

I'm not crazy about this due to furloughs hanging over our head but I am going to enjoy the time off while I can get it.

I'll second that! Keep the MOU! Let the money grubbers have at it. I'd rather spend the gift (time) a little bit more constructively.

Dude.... do think this is real?? Did you REALLY listen to the video??

here are some quotes from it:

"45 minutes to type an e-mail"
"20 minute battery"
and the best one: "unbreakable unless dropped or smashed"

The MOU is in place and life goes on...
