Does anybody else regret coming over here to UPS? I do.
So far my career with UPS has been one let down after another. From about a week after getting done with IOE this place has really gone downhill for me and I honestly regret leaving my old airline for this place. The biggest let down is that I could be working for Southwest living in base and not having to commute. And even if I did have to commute with them, at least me life wouldn't be filled with so many unknowns.
Now it seems that I am going to get displaced to Anchorage. My 2nd displacement already.
I just moved to Louisville (bought a house too) and I cannot believe that I am going to have to make that commute to Anchorage. I hear horror stories and I am not looking forward to being away from my kids for so long.
And moving to Alaska? Yeah, I don't think that is going to happen. Nothing against anyone who lives there, but why would anyone move there unless you were raised there and had family there? Plus, I just bought a house in KY!!
AK is cold, the crime is bad, the winters are dark and long and it is expensive! I cannot see one single reason to move there! My wife will hate it with having young kids that won't know their grandparents and other family!
Ugh, I am really miserable with this place. I dread getting the news that I'm off to ANC!!!
Flame away, and don't take it the wrong way. I am very happy with how the IPA has treated us, but I just am not happy with my decision to come here. It is wrecking me and my family.
Coming to UPS has been a huge mistake in my life.

Well at least you will be making $132/every little 60 minutes (2nd year 2010)... WOW!! Seriously, I hear you. Family is by far the most important thing, even if you are making $132/ every 3600 seconds! I was fortunate enough to live in base the whole time I was "employed", but now if I get recalled I probably will not be so lucky. I will call it quits at that point. I knew this before I got hired, but I am having a good time with my family and no career will interfere with that. Money.....yeah its a good thing I guess. I would rather pump septic and be home every night than be based out of Tim Buck Two. Good luck super wealthy guy!!!

I think you'd do better to use your health benefits and see a therapist. Seriously, you're just opening yourself up to every yahoo on this board to take cheap shots at you. (I'm serious and not taking a cheap shot here)

It's going to be very hard for some here at UPS for a while. Me included.
I agree about the family part though. They are absolutely the most important and you don't get any do overs with your kids.
Money will come and go, but you only have one chance to be there when your kids are growing up.

No flame, but what airline did you leave to come to Brown? My only regret coming to Brown was not getting in earlier <g>. Sorry it has been a rough ride, but am sure many would be glad to have the rocky road over no road.
The early 90 hires were F/E's for 4 years. Many of the 2001 crowd got the furlough notice and were told that they could not even take a job in the sort. Get off the property was the directive. This too will pass.
I took the downgrade when displaced for QOL so understand that desire, but will go where needed to support the family.

Reading your post made my sarcastic self come out full force but I'll spare you.
Sounds like family is a top priority to you so at least we agree on that. You said this is wrecking your family. In what way? You don't get to see them as much because you are going to have to be gone more or is your wife freaking out?
You mention SWA....is that who you left UPS for? My question is why did you do that if you were living in base?
I do kind of understand your frustration but it's really hard for me to feel sorry for you especially in today's economy and the fact that I have many friends that would give their left you know what to have your seniority number. You're going to just have to suck it up and ride it out until things get better. Hang in there.....at some point it WILL get better.
The number one thing the company and the union should tell a new hire here IMO is DON'T MOVE TO BASE RIGHT AWAY!!!!

Money isn't everything.
And don't forget, most of us junior guys are at half pay for the next few years, so no, I am not super wealthy guy anytime soon.
My paycheck is cut in half because of the MOU options that I chose to save my job and other jobs. It is going to be quite painful for me and my family over the next couple of years.

I agree... I could have stayed at Atlas.... Nevermind, would have been furloughed. I could have stayed at USAirways... Nevermind, would have been furloughed. At UPS things have been tough, but aren't they everywhere. We will all be OK when these people start to retire again. I may get laid off, but I am glad it will be from Brown and not from previous companies.

Plus I will be on RDG for the next two years so money will be tight.
Also, I just heard that they can pay us three months pay instead of three months furlough notice. So, technically it's possible to get one nice big last paycheck on January 1 right after peak for a April 1st furlough, right?

Sitting reserve in Alaska with half a paycheck coming in (with which is not enough to pay our new mortgage) is my biggest dilemma. I need to get another job in SDF but there is so much uncertainty that I don't even know when I will be on RDG and when I won't so I cannot get another job to pay the bills.
Also, I hear that we are about to go through another roller coaster ride when the IPA bring the managers over. Get ready for another nail biting year with the junior pilot jobs in the firing line.
Ugh, I really hate this place.
