UPS regret

As far as I am concerned, my MOU contributions end Jan. 1, 2010. That is the date we purchased with the 2009 savings. 2010-2012 savings need to be renegotiated. If you cannot make due, I would suggest changing your contribution amounts. Large volunteer amounts from 30% of the crewmembers cannot fund the entire lot. I sure do appreciate everything everyone (the 68%) has done, but it isn't fair that there are many who gave A LOT and some that gave a little. It is a choice you make. If you cannot afford your mortgage, then you need to contribute less. If we don't make the required amounts, then so be it; but if we do and you are still miserable, then it's your fault to giving too much.
Not trying to **** anyone off, but when the Union said contribute what you can... They meant it! Buyers remorse sucks, but you bought it, so you must live with it... One more thing, if you didn't foresee a trip to ANC back in 2007 then you are naive!

Agree.....Take a leave and help me out for the next round to avoid furlough. Then you can plan on something and do the other job in SDF that pays so better. I know this sucks. I moved to Anc for this and am on half pay, but I am trying to do the best I can. If you hate it take the leave, they will grant it, and maybe things will be better doing something else.

I see you came from Southwest...I think I can see why you are having second thoughts. Knowing how Southwest and a rare few other companies treat their employees, I think I understand. It doesn't have anything to do with MOUs, commuting, or pay scales, but it has to do with the day to day enjoyment of the job. Southwest has a very enviable corporate culture, one in which employees like coming to work and contributing to the companies success. They are made to feel like they are part of the grand plan. In that regard UPS does not compare and never will.
Many will say it doesn't matter because we are paid well (MOUs aside), as if that is a replacement for the enjoyment of the workplace. Personally if money was issue number one I never would have become a pilot; and I must agree I have never seen so many well paid, employed, yet still miserable people at one place before I came to UPS, whether it is line pilots or management types.
Having said all that, a good friend recently reminded me in a random discussion that past decisions made by me in life are mine, and I have to make due with that and take ownership of it. Likewise, your decision to leave Southwest was yours, and you have to come to terms with that. As many have already pointed out, things could be much worse. Two years ago it seemed like a no brainer to come here. Perhaps it doesn't seem like a good decision to leave a company like Southwest today, but in 5 years who knows?
You won't know if you made the right choice until the day you retire.

Sitting reserve in Alaska with half a paycheck coming in (with which is not enough to pay our new mortgage) is my biggest dilemma. I need to get another job in SDF but there is so much uncertainty that I don't even know when I will be on RDG and when I won't so I cannot get another job to pay the bills.
Also, I hear that we are about to go through another roller coaster ride when the IPA bring the managers over. Get ready for another nail biting year with the junior pilot jobs in the firing line.
Ugh, I really hate this place.

If the managers come over it will be the bottom original ipa pilots who get furloughed. In the company's eyes and maybe even the ipa the bottom 300 should never have been hired anyway. We are like problem step children.

In his defense, when I decided to give to the MOU, I thought that it was all or nothing. By cutting my pay by 50 percent I thought that I would always have a job. Now, I took the pay cut and will lose my savings and will still probably get furloughed. All or nothing? Not really. If it was and I was laid off, I would go live with family and have some savings. Now, I will still probably get laid off, but now with no savings.
So I do understand his pain.

Does anybody else regret coming over here to UPS? I do.
So far my career with UPS has been one let down after another. From about a week after getting done with IOE this place has really gone downhill for me and I honestly regret leaving my old airline for this place. The biggest let down is that I could be working for Southwest living in base and not having to commute. And even if I did have to commute with them, at least me life wouldn't be filled with so many unknowns.
Now it seems that I am going to get displaced to Anchorage. My 2nd displacement already.
I just moved to Louisville (bought a house too) and I cannot believe that I am going to have to make that commute to Anchorage. I hear horror stories and I am not looking forward to being away from my kids for so long.
And moving to Alaska? Yeah, I don't think that is going to happen. Nothing against anyone who lives there, but why would anyone move there unless you were raised there and had family there? Plus, I just bought a house in KY!!
AK is cold, the crime is bad, the winters are dark and long and it is expensive! I cannot see one single reason to move there! My wife will hate it with having young kids that won't know their grandparents and other family!
Ugh, I am really miserable with this place. I dread getting the news that I'm off to ANC!!!
Flame away, and don't take it the wrong way. I am very happy with how the IPA has treated us, but I just am not happy with my decision to come here. It is wrecking me and my family.
Coming to UPS has been a huge mistake in my life.

I have been looking for work for over a year now, if you can do better, do it.

It ain't all rainbows and lollipops right now at SWA either. There are guys getting bumped from domiciles and having to commute to OAK or LAS from other sides of the country, and there will be more pain in the fall when they cut some additional flights. Maybe you would have been senior enough to ride out the storm, but it ain't perfect anywhere right now.
At FedEx, average guy has taken a 20% hit due to line reductions.

If a majority of Americans feel this way about having a job and getting things done.
We are all doomed.
We are all doomed.
