Do you have a link to a press release? Can't find it anywhere but here.
On July 27, 2009, the National Mediation Board released the pilots at Amerijet International from government-sponsored mediation. Effective at 12:01am, August 27, 2009, the pilots, represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 769, are free to seek self-help.
This release was granted after five years of fruitless negotiations. In the Spring of 2009, the pilots had their pay slashed 10%, and all 401k company contributions were eliminated. The management at Amerijet have done everything in their power to keep from signing a first contract with the IBT, and refused to ever bargain with the pilot group in good faith. What the future holds is anybody's guess.
This small labor action affects everyone in the industry. An Amerijet pilot makes ten percent less money now than he did in 1998, not even factoring in cost of living and inflation. Amerijet has leased several aircraft, and will replace the leased ABX aircraft with their own (formerly ABX) B-767's. If there is a labor action, Amerijet will not hesitate to contract other cargo carriers to move their freight.

It is rather pathetic that this forum cares more for high paid UPS and FEDEX pilots than the rank and file freight dogs. Sometimes it is better to care about low paid brothers than it is about your own selfish attitudes. I personally would never work for the scoundrels at your Miami-based LCC cargo operators, but rock on if you think it's better to have a miserable pilot job, than actually making some other career for yourself. I can see it now, a bunch of dinosaurs from Eastern and other striked careers pontificating as to how the IBT doesn't represent them. It's so formulaic, it is pathetic. Lead the young go-getters down the path, it is all about you, and your almost retired sad lifestyle. I will personally travel down to Miami, and beg the youth of that airline not to cross the IBT. It is not worth your career. There are seventy-four pages of scabs on the list, we don't need any more.

The National Mediation Board notified Amerijet that they have been released into a 30-day cooling off period after which self-help could potentially begin. Self-help can include a strike against the carrier. The 30 day period is up at 4 p.m. on August 27, 2009. Amerijet pilots have been trying to get a contract since early 2006. The parties have been through NMB mediation to no avail. In fact the carrier unilaterally cut pilot pay by 10 percent. Given this history, the Teamsters Airline Division sought to be released to pursue self help measures.

Dear All,
Sorry for the incoherent tirade. I worked at one time in the Miami freight business. At one time, these companies were just terrible. We had fun, made money, fought incessantly with older, mostly Eastern scabs, and moved on to better things. This company, AJT, is the last of the buffalo on the grasslands. It is important that they do not continue to operate in their rogue manner. The question is, what happens if they shutter operations. Wonderful. ABX or someone else can move freight that otherwise would be put on an AJT airplane. They could bring a couple of furloughed pilots back to their operation, making a better salary, and a better quality of life. The industry, as a whole, is better off. Worrying about how a company can meet payroll is the company's problem, not the pilots' issue. If you want to be a air freight company, then you must pay your crews this amount of money. If you can't, get out of the business. Enough said.

If Teamsters and management do not reach an agreement on August 27, 09 Amerijet pilots and flight engineers will go on strike. Best of luck to those guys because they are dealing with some of the worst crooks this industry has to offer. I guess they've had enough abuse, ajt crews work under the worst conditions imaginable. Low (ridiculous low pay), long days, min days off, no toilets, not even drinking water and poor treatment are a few of the things they deal with day in and day out. I please ask of all fellow professional pilots to support our brothers at ajt. Amerijet not only threatens the well being of its crews but the entire industry, as they are very close to starting B767 operations and expansion into new markets worldwide, all this believe it or not under the same conditions as the B727 same pay ohhh yeah not counting the 10% pay cut they recently imposed and all the other crap. So again please support our fellow aviators in any way possible and lets all remember the names of those scabs that will cross the line! Remember!!! Once a scab always a scab don't let those same idiots screw you like they've done for the rest of the good honest professional Amerijet pilots!
