FedEx Express to Take Delivery of First Boeing 777 Freighter - Yahoo! Finance

So, do you think these reasons are enough for UPS to step up to the plate (acquisition cost wise), or not?

The global freighter’s range enables FedEx Express to fly between major markets and hubs in Asia, Europe and the U.S. with more freight and in less time than it takes today, allowing latercut-off times for customers in the markets to drop off their shipments. For example, 777F transit times from points in Asia to the U.S. will be from one to three hours faster than those of the MD-11.
In addition to service enhancements the aircraft provides for our customers, the freighter also delivers noteworthy environmental benefits and efficiencies:
  • Uses 18 percent less fuel than an MD-11;
  • State-of-the-art engine technology reduces emissions 18 percent;
  • Advanced noise-reduction technology meets airport noise standards and makes landings and takeoffs quieter;
  • Has lower maintenance and operating costs than other aircraft in its class.

Yeah, but it's a shiny new profit machine.

Hmmm ...I view it a bit differently ... it comes bought and paid for by the crew members that are flying it ... literally, with the pay cut they took from their profit making company? How could that be? Who would be stupid enough to stand for such bad treatment?

It features longer range, better fuel economy and lower emissions than the McDonnell Douglas MD-11, a transcontinental freighter it is replacing.

And here I thought it was replacing the A-380.

Any guesses on how many actual, non-sim, landings a mid-seniority F/O will get every 90 days?

Whatever the FAA minimum is for IOE...then Zero until they(the FAA) decide how to regulate pilots not getting landings.

Until, then, the sim guys are your friends.
