Once you go MAC you never go back.
I love my MacBook Air.

I won't claim that the Air is sturdier than a MB, but I think it is perceived as being a flimsy and it's not. It's also one piece of aluminum and amazingly sturdy for it's size.

I have no problem with my MacBook Pro and LIDO. I just tried it again and it works fine.

I made the jump to Mac almost two years ago after I grew tired of talking to people in India on a weekly basis. I could not be happier. It was a little scary after using the PC junk all of my life. BTW, at the time I didn't think PC were junk. I do now. I would recommend Mac to anyone. I have no problem using VIPS or LIDO. I haven't used the green screen in years so I can't be of much help there.
I have the Mac Pro 15 inch. It's rugged, fairly light, STABLE no lock ups, fits in my back pack and if I have a problem (I haven't) or a question I can go to my friendly Apple Store and talk to a person face to face who speaks English at least as well as I do. I will never, ever go back to a PC.
