Fedex Wool Topcoat
#1
Ok....well it was bad headwork on my part, but somehow I didn't get the message that this was being discontinued at VF solutions. I went to go order one today and the message was "we're out.....and we're never going to get anymore."
So I need to find something else to spend the rest of my uniform money on today.....I was thinking about the parka, but seems like after that last FCIF regarding wear of the dang thing I am not sure when you can and when you can't.
I wanted to get the wool coat as something to wear to work, but when I got to Europe, I could wear on the layover. Last European trip I brought my own (airly bulky to pack) , and I blended in well enough I guess....I was asked for directions by French speaking people three times....I don't know what that says about me...
Over-all, I am trying to figure out how not to have to wear one jacket, and pack another.
The FedEx leather jacket sticks out like a sore thumb in Europe I think, and I'm tired of getting condescending looks from MD-11 F/Os who fancy themselves "tragically hip" and all wear the Parka, or pieces of it.
Also, I am not the "London Fog" type.....so that is out too.
Yes, I was (until recently) a boeing Capt., who was able to happily go to dinner wearing white tennis shoes and a leather jacket, because I was better dressed than the sweats-wearing people of DSM, FWA, and FNT.
They don't have any to try on at VF Solutions so I am not sure what I wear, but I am willing to bet a 46 Short would do it. Any lurkers out there that have one they don't use, I'll relieve you of it for a reasonable price.
Was wondering if anyone knew which, if any HKG tailors make one, and maybe I'll just bid a trip and pick one up.....Suggestions?

That's too bad about the wool coat. I really like mine.
I'm a one-coat kinda guy too so I'd say get the parka and "Just Wear It"
If you end up wearing the leather jacket, jeans, and tennies we'll still let you swing successfully with us at the discotheque!

I wear the wool coat. Didn't need a new one so I didn't buy another one at VF Solutions during their sale. I did email, MF in Americas Region Flight Management and asked about this. Due to a lack of space, the decided to not carry the coats. You can go to a department store, purchase a blue single breasted wool trench coat and expense it over two years with the uniform allowance.
I have the email from her regarding this, but recommend you confirm with her. If you need her name/number, send me a PM.

"O" sent out an email about you are allowed to wear the parka, but only sometimes..., whatever that means. The parka is awesome and you will fit in anywhere, if for some reason you are worried about impressing the Frogs.

April O gram dated 4/16/09.
7. Uniform Parka
The “new” parka was only intended as a “stand alone” outer garment for inclement weather operations. Please wear the appropriate outer garment (Blouse, Leather Jacket, or White Shirt) when the conditions allow it.
I take it that it is up to the individual to determine what they deem inclement weather.
