-Derogatory term for a strikebreaker, a person who works despite strike action or against the will of other employees

I know we reserve that term for the most heinous, self centered creatures who walk amongst us. However, the latter half of the definition seems to apply to those who are flying draft and volunteer while the rest are being cheated out of work. How about Scab-lite? I don't want to dilute the original word, just an observation.

 

Challenge is that what they do is contractual...... a Scab of any name is completely outside that realm. In the end, counter productive IMO.

 

IS what they are doing allowed contractually? Or are they violating the contract? If it is contractual, they may be DBs for doing it, but the majority voted to allow them to do it.

 

Ok, how about guys who protect carryover, or guys who fly MUS or MUV, or guys who do anything else for which you disaprove but is contractually legal? That's a slippery slope you on, and I'd also suggest you are playing into the company's hands by trying to pit one pilot against another at this stage.

 

I think the scab usage is misdirected - that term is reserved for a very specific situation.

The guys who are shooting us all in the feet are just fools. They are behaving like children. Short-sighted, oriented only toward near-term gain and self-centered behavior. It really does look a lot like the natural behavior of a small child.

Unfortunately there's no law against stupid. Education and peer pressure are the only options available.

They aren't SCABS. However their selfish behavior puts them on the list of potential Scabs if you guys ever go on strike. We have about 30% at UPS.

I'm glad that last part was added. I was getting ready to raise the BS flag over all of that being penned by an Airbus Flex!

 

Unfortunately, both Jack London and 72Bluestreak31 are correct. Scabs are the lowest form of life on this earth.

As for those who pick up open time, etc. they may be "lowlife" individuals but there is a profound difference between those "lowlife's" and a SCAB and let's not mix the two. If a "lowlife" is operating within the confines of the contract, then so be it. I saw it at my last carrier and hated those who were "company men/women" and who lined their pockets with silver at the expense of the greater good. Nevertheless, that's a different animal from those that cross a picket line and take work from those legally on strike.

Not to let the blood boil, but there is a difference.
