It has been my experience that - 4.H.1.a. leveling is applied immediately upon assignment - the scheduled CH of the trip assigned - so, the instant they assign you a 6CH trip, you get 6 CH of leveling.

Credit towards RLG when assigned is the next sub-paragraph (4.H.1.b.):

b. For RLG, trip guarantee or standby pay shall be credited
when that pilot:
i. actually blocks out on the trip;
ii. shows for the standby;
iii. is bumped from the trip or standby; or
iv. is removed from the reserve assignment for sick leave
in accordance with Section 14.B.5.b. (Sick Leave).

After the trip has been flown, if the final CH pay is different (greater/overage credit), the overage CH is subsequently applied to leveling and RLG (after you block in)

This can be found in CBA 4.BB.8. (page 58 in my .pdf version)

so....if a 6CH trip (when assigned) spikes up to 18 CH during the trip & then back down to 15 CH when all is said & done....you should start out with 6 CH leveling and after block-in get the extra 9 CH to bring it up to 15CH (in both leveling AND RLG) as actually flown.

(I'm pretty sure also that extra disruption pay - if any - should be paid in addition to RLG = CBA 4.H.6.)
