No "Operational Emergency" declared - that I've heard

Rumor - somewhere between 10 & 20 airplanes stranded in Euro (with crews) - news of another (different) volcano in Russia now set to pop it's top any time now

Stranded in Paris. Forced to enjoy (increasingly) warmer weather. Beer and wine starting to taste like water. Need to get out of here!! Looking to media and reading about test flights by KLM, BA and others. Chief pilots at European airlines told to "prove" air is safe to fly in. Best guess, hotel standby ends tomorrow and finally get to fly to Delhi. Wife spending 200% quicker than earning it. Lawn needs cutting. Can't stay out much longer. New parigram, "ash is really good for engines, cleans turbine section better than power wash"

So, how much have your pairings been increased ? Does the GRID part of our CBA factor into any of this for you guys ? How many times have the trip revisions been revised ? Just sitting here stateside and curious how this will pan out if the volcano keeps this up much longer !!!

They're all into the 200% overage now!!! Still doesn't make-up for missing time at home. Maybe the domestic fliers on "The Plantation" need to extend 4a2b to make up for the loss in revenue?

Flex, this seems like new territory for all concerned ................ imagine if this keeps going for a while (?) I just read where Lufthansa had sent up some aircraft to "test the air". So what bunch did they use for crewmembers ? Management ? Line holders ? Test Pilots ? Combo of all the above ?
The OPEN SKIES AGREEMENTS, they did not factor in such calamities like this one ! I am surprised that we are not hearing more from the crews that are "stuck over there", perhaps they are being told not to say much about this (?)

I'm starting my 4th day in Dubai. My original trip doesn't end until Wednesday night, so no draft here. I would like to be home on schedule if possible because it was a 13 day trip to begin with. Nobody is telling us not to say anything. I don't think that GOCC really knows when we will start flying again, so they put us all on stanby until europe opens up!

Interesting question came up......

If you're on reserve.....not a regular trip.....how long can you be "extended" in the field into days off?

some say indefinitely (like regular line holder) - but some say if you're on reserve they can't extend you into your days off involuntarily (without your agreement)

any thoughts? experience with this?

discuss

Some crews will make money, others may just not fly for their trip guarantee, will depend on when you arrived vs when you are scheduled to head home. I had recently arrived, only operated a FRA to CDG when the sky closed, others we've talked to were to be home by now. One guy already into scheduled VAC time, so is making 200% now and will get VAC cancel money also. We are extended to next week or next month, can't remember, onto 17th revision but will make some extra doe at 200%, unless we come home on time.
BTW, skys look really bad today vs earlier in the week. Probably just city haze as air has been relatively stagnant. Waiting to see if Fedex launches flights today to CDG, should know soon.
