No, it isn't. A lot of the bottom would tell you that their move to UPS is looking worse as time ticks closer to 22 May. A great number were fooled into the idea of stability and left jobs that were not too bad. We all make mistakes, but no one enjoys advice from senior pilots that were just lucky. Airline success is like picking an honor grad from the 1st day of your 1st grade class. You don't know if you pick was right until it's too late to change your mind.

Dude-

Don't come to this s&!t palace. Great job, but horrible people to work for. They will lie to you every chance they get.

I am very happy here, however this is a true statement. also, they will screw you/ rather than help you when/ if anything goes wrong.

Seriously. You need to know that the people who "represent you" will sell you down the river in order to satisfy their desires, no matter what happens to the rest of you. You need to know that the "seniority list" in the original Constitution & Bylaws of IPA was never enforceable, and that your counsel knew that. You need to know that your union entered into an agreement in 1991 that it would not attempt to organize the Flight Qualified Supervisors, even though both IPA and UPS knew the FQSs were eligible for collective bargaining (or why would you need a side letter agreement to negate that). You need to know that, without a push from outside, each of you could be "Gummered" on a daily basis. You need to know that (in all likelihood) your general counsel gets more paid time off than you do.

You need to know that Rob Dorsey was right, and that fifteen years later your union still ignores that fact.

Other than that, life is wonderful.

also, as others have indicated, there is no indication that the airline will grow in the future. this is about as good as it will get. rumors are that the president of the airline has indicated that 2,500 pilots is the goal going forward.

that means no hiring, and sadly, most of the junior pilots will probably not have the opportunity to upgrade for a long time, if ever.

is it really that bad at ups? yes, it's that bad.

stay far away from ups. go to fedex.
This may be your personal opinion, but it's just that, an opinion. I still believe that UPS is one of the best airlines to work for. (disclaimer - not getting furloughed). True, they're probably never going to treat us like Southwest, nor will we ever be an airline in the true sense like FedEx, but you have to evaluate all factors. Even though right now we "need" to furlough, there's no saying that tomorrow we won't announce an order for 30 777s. We're sitting on lots and lots of cash, and cash is king. Their furlough was code for landgrab on our contract, and we said no thanks. I guess I'm a a glass half full sort. I'm happy working for UPS, although at times frustrated by their decisions with regard to our folks. But who's to say working at a pax carrier these days will be any better?

The bottom 300 guys were affected by a "perfect storm" of events, not the least of which was the age 65 rule..also I clearly remember over 10 yrs ago when a lot of guys were complaining that UPS wasn't hiring enough people..had that advice been followed who knows how many more would be on the furlough list today..

PreContact I agree with. I'm also starting to think that UPS is doing this dumb@$$ furlough so they can have the RIF. Its a lot cheaper for them. And if anyone REALLY knows how to save/make money its this company. They put people on the street for a month or two then call them back just before they have to retrain them. Then the IPA with take them to court over it which it will be hung up for a few years. By the time the courts see it our way UPS will be hiring.

Spoke my peace so I'm leaving for a while.
Good day.

Um I left JetBlue to come here and I regret it. Furthermore, the fact that you lump JetBlue with USA3000 shows how little you know about the industry.

I generally like ur posts FP, but u beat the "UPS is better than any pax carrier" drum a bit too much since its obvious you haven't been in both shoes (and I don't mean working for a regional). I have. UPS sucks; I regret my decision.
