Do or will the B757's have the original glass cockpit or the upgrades as ABX has put in their 767's? Just curious.

Are they not going to open an MD-10/MD-11 base in HKG?

As a point to those desiring the big purple, if you have never been to Hong Kong, smelled the smells, been smashed getting into a train, the lound noises of construction, I suggest you may want to visit. It really is like another planet. FDX might have to put newbies there as I think it is really junior or will be. Also, flying around Asia is NOT the same as flying around the USA. FDX would be a great gig but be very prepared especially if you have a family. Hong Kong is cool but not for the faint of heart!

I am so tired of taking the FE written but here I go again.

Trying to thin out the competition?

6 CRTs in the Fedex 757s (don't know if that's the ABX upgrade)

HKG MD base seems to be desired by those in charge - they wanted 757s in Paris a few years ago too. All I can say is we'll see.

Nah, just preparing people for what may happen. Some of the UPS guys were not happy when they got sent to ANC nevermind Hong Kong. There were posts by a couple of UPS newbies somewhere on the www. that did not seem happy at all. This type of flying and particularly Hong Kong/Asia are not for every one. People just think, oh who cares, it's FedEx, what could possibly go wrong? Divorce, etc... Seemed like another planet to me Hong Kong. I also heard that being a 727 FE is tough too. I have mate who joined on that and said he nearly quit as it was horrible, winters out preflighting in DSM etc... You should really know what you are getting yourself into before just blindly applying to a company cause its a major. Just my two cents.

Yes --- the FOs who preflight the 757, A300, MD-11 and 777s at FEDEX have it much, much better.

I'd only work for FDX if I got hired direct to a Captains seat.

:D:)

Being junior anything at FedEx brings a quality of life significantly lower than most enjoy. If you are really junior make sure you have a face mask and gloves for preflights in the winter. You better able to sleep during the day too.

Some very junior MD-11 crewmembers have to go to the SIM to get landings. Does anyone know about the 777 folks?

That's why we have some very senior FOs and SOs.

Since our flying focuses on international your upgrade opportunities will be fewer if you don't like HKG.

Being junior at ANY airline brings a quality of life significantly lower than most enjoy. That is why they call it being junior.

I think the gap is often wider here. I don't mean the top 10% vs the bottom 10%. I'm talking about 50-70% vs 75-90%.

Mid level seniority will get you double DHs, 6-8 hr duties, and/or 2 departure lines. Juniority brings you 10-12 hr duties, 4+ departure lines and/or up to 5 fewer days off a month for the same pay.

Do I need to mention the 30-45 hr carryover lines? A third of our pilots earn 30-50% more than the other two thirds.

Gunter,

You really don't get it, do you? Being junior at any airline sucks. And you can be sure that being junior at FedEx doesn't suck any more than it does at Delta, American, UPS, etc, etc. Most passenger carrying airlines feature 3 or 4 departures a month, for a much larger percentage of their crew force, and why would you bother to mention the "30-45 hour carryover lines?" Everyone knows, perhaps except you, that being senior at an airline comes with some perks, while being junior doesn't offer those same good deals. Didn't anyone ever tell you that life isn't always fair?

JJ
