Keep in mind that the cheap electronic goods we buy in China will probably have these batteries in them as well. I'm sure I got some when I bought a laser pointer to play with the cats.

Just wait until the day we're flying Chinese made airliners

You forget that the name brand American batteries are still made in China. We just hope they have a little better quality control.

Chinese quality on safety sensitive products is most aptly viewed by rewatching the engine room scene on " The Sand Pebbles" I TAKEEE LENCH! we should always opt away from things made in China when we can.....

So I can't take my iPhone, MacBook, or iPad on a plane? All made in China. A little more common sense and a little less alarmist nonsense.

I see your smiley.....but I wasn't referring to the iphone, ipad etc... I was talking about the knockoff lithium batteries for your $250 surefire flashlight that caused the whole thing. If you can shell out that much for a flashlight, what is a few extra bucks for quality batteries.

But this whole thing does make you think about carrying your iphone in your front pocket

Thanks for posting that warning -- glad I stumbled into the Cargo forum and read your post. I have two of those flashlights and did carry them on flights. The flashlights I have were marketed by Browning with red, white, and blue LED modes and a very bright halogen bulb as well with a memory recall for the setting (6V Xenon - 6 LED, about $60). Won't fly with them again! I pulled out the Duracell CR123 and it does, in fact, have a warning that the battery could explode if disassembled or exposed to high heat / flame. I'm not going to take a chance on the manufacturer -- Chinese brand, American brand, who cares -- not using it.

Surefire CR 123s are made in the USA.

Traded my CR123 flashlight in on a slightly bigger/heavier model with a really bright LED that uses C-cell batteries. Found it at a big box hardware store.
