You forget that the name brand American batteries are still made in China. We just hope they have a little better quality control.

Chinese quality on safety sensitive products is most aptly viewed by rewatching the engine room scene on " The Sand Pebbles" I TAKEEE LENCH! we should always opt away from things made in China when we can.....

I see your smiley.....but I wasn't referring to the iphone, ipad etc... I was talking about the knockoff lithium batteries for your $250 surefire flashlight that caused the whole thing. If you can shell out that much for a flashlight, what is a few extra bucks for quality batteries.
But this whole thing does make you think about carrying your iphone in your front pocket

Thanks for posting that warning -- glad I stumbled into the Cargo forum and read your post. I have two of those flashlights and did carry them on flights. The flashlights I have were marketed by Browning with red, white, and blue LED modes and a very bright halogen bulb as well with a memory recall for the setting (6V Xenon - 6 LED, about $60). Won't fly with them again! I pulled out the Duracell CR123 and it does, in fact, have a warning that the battery could explode if disassembled or exposed to high heat / flame. I'm not going to take a chance on the manufacturer -- Chinese brand, American brand, who cares -- not using it.
