UPS Expanding? Not so fast!
In an earlier thread Soyathink perpetuated the belief that UPS is expaning while FDX is contracting maily because Brown has 747s and 767s on order. he failed to include some important info.
The 767s were to expand the fleet. However, since their order UPS retired the entire DC-8 fleet! These new 767s are replacing Dc-8s not adding more capacity. Also, in the last 36 months, in additon to the DC-8s, UPS has retired the entire fleet of 727s and 747-100/200s. The A380 order was cancelled and the orginal order of A300s was slashed. The 747-400 orders were not a replacement for the A380s, but were earmarked to replace the Classic 747s.
We are still a much smaller airline in terms of pilots and aircraft than we were several years ago. We now have less than 2800 pilots and just under 2700 are active. It's amazing the difference in intl ops between the 2 companies. How many aircraft and pilots does FDX have? My bet is that it is about double of UPS.
I realize that Soyathink probably already knows all of this. He was just attempting to flamebait. But, for the record for any disinterested observers, UPS is contracting while FDX is expanding with 777's.

Then why do most interviewers give you the impression they are hiring you for a career and not temp work? Also, most employers want you to give up all recall rights from previous employers. Why would they do that if they didn't want you for the long term?

Name me one Pilot that has never been furloughed? Nothing is forever in this industry, thats the price we all pay to become pilots. No matter what Airline you work for you must always be perpared for the enevitable furlough. The history of our chosen profession is littered with fuloughed pilots and bankrupt airlines.

Careful L'il J........... he's already responsible for 4 of the 5 closed threads on the first page of cargo. You're just going to encourage him. I think he's going for a record.
