think middle seat in coach deadheading all over the world 1/2 the month... that's life at World.. some long range/ACMI type airlines have "Business Class" travel as part of their contract for a reason.

I've got a buddy there who left Atlantic Coast Airlines/Independence Air from the left seat of the RJ after about 5 years and went to World. He was not sure if it was the right thing but he absolutely loves it there. He love the life style and the flying. I tried talking him into apply to Cathay and he wouldnt hear of it, he loves it that much.

Overall it's pretty good. There are a few issues that are being worked on as contract neg moves along. Some gray language that needs to be fixed in the current contract.
You can go out for 13-18 day trips or split lines with two or three pairings. You can fly all cargo, AMC or both in the same month. You can have home reserve lines with 2 or 4 hour call out(yeah right) or open lines where your available to the company for 18 days and have a 16 hour call out. You may or may not get used on open or home res, but as of the last year or so you will be used for part or most of it; We have been "bare boned" on staffing levels since the down turn.
If you don't want to commute and you want 2 weeks to a month off at a time, then you'll love it. It's a great company to be a part of.

Would you say World is a career company?
Any plans for more growth / airplanes other than two 747s that are scheduled for delivery as listed on the APC profile page?
Are the payrates on World's profile correct? Are there yearly contractual pay raises?
When does the current pilot contract expire and what is the status / progress of any contract negotiations that are currently taking place?
Thanks for the info.

Yes, absolutely. There is only one other place I would leave here to fly at, maybe; That's a big maybe. UPS is no longer one of them either.
They would like to pick-up 2-3 more 747s after these two coming. 5 yr plan to grow the 747 fleet and they would pick-up MD-11s if we have the business for them. We barely have enough pilots to fly what we have on property let alone the two coming, so things could move slowly with all of the transition going on because 10s going away and 74s coming on. This came straight from the World CEO in my 74 class last week, so take it with a grain of salt.
Yes, pretty close. My first year here I made 68k, second I made something like 76k, 87k and so on. I never work extra which you make a lot of money doing. I try to work the least amount possible, which is easy to do when we are properly staffed. We get paid for a lot of other things than just straight flight hours. IRO, continuos duty based on # of crew members, etc. 4.8 hrs a day whether you are flying or on a 6 day layover in Shanghai or Rota, Spain.
Expired already and currently in negotiations. GLAH, our parent holding company, wants to go public so they had to release earnings. This should be very helpful in negs. Like I said early, there are some things that need fixing in the contract and we are all expecting to improve compensation, or there could eventually be another strike, which nobody around here is scared to do.
