Default World Cup 2010!

I'm sitting here watching the USA in the FIFA Cup Final, and wandering if before next year’s World Cup; (the biggest sporting event in the world) if any other US airline is going to start flying to South Africa or is Delta going to reap all the benefit of being the only American carrier flying into Africa?

Good job Team USA! They lost 2-3 to the world's greatest team, but it was an amazing performance nonetheless.

Great game! I'm American of Brazilian descent and today I'm very proud of the US national team. They fought a good fight and I can see them do well in the World Cup.
I'm gonna plan my vacation around it and I'm also hoping to be able to non-rev out there...

Nice job Dempsey, Donovan, Howard and team...The world now looks at them differently.

Nice job Brazil... 3 times Confederations Cup Champions.

Not the first time the U.S. team had an impressive show against the Samba kings.

In 1998 they they beat Brazil in 1-0 victory. Thanks in part to Casey Keller in goal. I believe he shut down Romario THREE times in that match, getting high praise from him in the process.

I remember that game, and I actually thought today was going to be a repeat of the same, but no luck. All the same, the US team did a great job, great game, although the Brazilians really dominated the last 30 minutes or so of the game.

It's hard to beat the Brazilians. It's possible, but it's too ingrained in them, as well as having such a talent pool to draw from. There are some interesting observations that have been made of them over the years;

There's enough talent on the team to field TWO world cup contending teams.

They don't need to have a good goal keeper (ahem, Taffarel), they'll just outscore their opponents.

The Brazilians have the most talent of any team, but that doesn't mean they ARE the most talented team.

They are consistent I'll give you that. I've been following professional soccer my whole life, and they definitely seem to have an endless pool of talent. It's funny, most of the guys on their national team don't even play in Brazil, most play in Europe, which I think in my humble opinion is the reason why they are so good as a national team. They already have the "street style", coupled with the technical elements they pick up in Europe and there you have it....

I tried to figure out how I could get to South Africa for the World Cup, but a two leg 22 hour non-rev trip doesn't seem like it would be a good idea all things considered!!!

How was training?

Mod note:

Moved to hangar talk as it has nothing to do with major airlines.

If you're not doing everything you possible can to make the game, at great sacrifice to yourself, you're not trying hard enough. The true English hooligans would mock you for using that as an excuse to miss a game. But I know some guys that have tried to non-rev to a WC before, uh, not easy.

But yeah, it'd be damn cool to make it to SA to see it. Besides, I've wanted to see that country for years.

Good, had a good guy teaching the class, learned a lot of interesting things about the plane most normal line guys don't get to, but don't really need either.

With the way it's being managed, doubt I'll ever get to fly a charter trip unless I want to give up some serious time off.
