Don't worry--they'll go junior.

The last few weeks & months have shown us some of the "upside" of undermanning--VBB, AVA, and mega levels of draft.

The "downside" of undermanning is decreased flexibility in personal pilot scheduling; i.e. denial of trip drops, R-day drops, moves, etc.

Just glad that the fiction of 4a2b has been repudiated, IN SPADES, baby. But hey--with that I'll bet ya get a free bowl o' soup!

Makes one wonder how we lost the 4a2b arbitration!!!

My conversations with scheduling indicate that the new reserve manning model looks at historic (same date on previous years) to determine reserve manning numbers for the approval of reserve drops or swaps.

As an added factor, numerous MD11 airport stbys were added prior to and after Turkey Day. This probably occurred fleetwide!!

Heard something similar to this but from crew planning, perhaps someone even more in the know than a scheduler.... However he did say that the models don't actually look at a year ago, but rather only a month or two of history. He also said that the ability to drop an R day has nothing to do with the # of trips already available for the day...I know makes no sense. Looking back only a month doesn't make much sense either, as December would be much busier than November, and November more than October and so on...but hey, what around here makes sense??

On a different but related subject ...

After having dozens (maybe hundreds?) of R day drops/moves denied for insufficient reserves ...

I just had an Advance Volunteer request denied for "Sufficient Reserves"???

Something doesn't smell right here? Hmmmm ...

Maybe you need to ava for reserve days.

Welcome to FedEx Boys.
I've never had an R day drop refused. Can't fly if you're sick.

Only way I could get out of the R day problem, was to get the drop done by ACP .........
Screwed up mess, they put you in a corner to drop instead of allowing an R day move where you could actually be AVAILABLE

Seems to me the key to moving R-days is to move them to days when they need more people, relative to the days you are moving "off". Kind of hard to figure that out in advance. But, I have submitted multiple moves from "A to B"...denied, insufficient reserves, then tried "A to C"...approved. And, as it turns out, they had a lot less pilot availability on the "C" days, so it got approved.

As a side note, I've been called the last two days to see if I am available for DRAFT Airport Standby. Which I am NOT. I don't even live in MEM. Hard to believe we were so over-manned and now they are drafting for airport standby for people who do not have a 901 are code!!!

Default FDX - MD-11 DEC Reserve lines!

WARNING: THREAD CREEP ...

I don't think it's my imagination that EVERY MD-11 DEC reserve line works Xmas Eve and/or Xmas day!*?

Thanks FedEx ... I guess family holiday time isn't as important to some of us?

MD-11 FO lines are better - I think 1 RB line and 2 R24 lines don't work Christmas Eve...guess I could take my chances with a VTO Sure glad we're overmanned....
