From what I understand, you could move to HKG, and then one week later, a bid opens and you could bid back. If you come back and were not there for two years, then you would owe the money back. If you were there more than two years, you would not. They can only keep you from bidding if you are in a seat freeze. That would be the case, only if you bid to a lower paying seat. So for instance, if you bid out of HKG wide body right seat to narrow body rt or back seat, then you would not be able to bid or move out of this new, lesser paying seat for the period of the freeze. (18months?)

The only money you refer to having to pay back is the $10K seed money and the monthly storage allowance correct? Not the $2700/month rental allowance?
Thanks Walrus.

Make sure you're getting good information before you make any decisions. As it stands right now, you are locked in for 2 years. You can bid out, but your training date will not be until your commitment is up. It's NOT simply a matter of magically paying back the seed money and Voila!! back to MEM you go. The VP of Flight Ops has to approve your transfer, and "I just want to go home to my mommy" isn't a good enough excuse these days, especially when they can't get enough people to bid it.

How long are the seat locks?
If you bid HKG and it's approved, when does the 2 year period start? On your first day in base? On the date the bid is awarded?
Also, if you go to HKG and do not accept the money can you then bid out to another seat under the two year period? Sorry if this has been answered? I'm just wondering if new hires go to HKG and then some day down the road under the two year period, the right seat of the 757 opens can you bid out and get in the next 757 class? Thanks

The simple answer is get people in HKG already flying for a LARGE Asian carrier based there. Or Hire pople who WANT to go and will stay for as long as they can. Or hire single guys. I am really sorry but if you want to go to FedEx like a lot of people, be prepared to go to Hong Kong or don't go/apply and let those that really want to get hired.
