Look, I am furloughed and junior which means I am supposed to keep to my corner or I'll be sighted as making waves or god forbid, asking questions. You asked, I'll answer.
The FQS issue is one that is very near and dear to the UPS heart, it will have to be fought for tooth and nail.
Now lets look at the timeline and personalities. A new pres comes in he kicks the gorilla in the nuts ala his style. Guess what, the gorilla didnt like it, and kicked me in the nuts just for fun.
Now before I hear the "The IPA didn't furlough you" line, let me state this, I know that. But in my OPINION this was handled all wrong. The time to go after the FQS is not when the gorilla is holding 300 people over the edge of the cliff in a net with sore testicles. The time is when you have some leverage, ANY leverage over the gorillas footing, we did'nt.
We still dont.
This should have been handled in a different way at a different time (when the economy was NOT in the toilet and could not be used as an excuse). Now it will get taken care of in negotitations, but with hostages, and all the baggage that goes with it.
Many promises have been made, overt promises that have not come true, and never should have been made.
We were told OUTRIGHT, "they cant furlough", then there was "well they can't furlough past 54", blah blah blah.
All we know is what UPS tells us, 2012. Fire away if you want, but its my opinion.
Back to my corner with my play-doh.
