FDX - Think Before you Vote

4 Nov 10 date on the document. FAA will require a SMS. SMS includes ASAP and FOQA. I don't think FedEx Alpa needs to give anything up for this.
Under the proposed rule, scheduled air carriers and a few others operating under Part 121 of federal aviation regulations would be required to implement an SMS within three years. The carriers would have to submit their SMS implementation plans to the FAA within six months of the final rule’s effective date. The plan would be required to show how the airline intends to comply with the rule within the three-year implementation period. An SMS would not take the place of regular FAA oversight, inspection and audits to ensure compliance with existing regulations

That would be correct if all ASAPs and FOQA's were boilerplate. They are far from it. We don't want the "industry standard" ASAP. We want the industry leading ASAP. That's what is in the TA. That is to our advantage, not the company.

FYI, the FOQA and ASAP portions were written as MOU's, or Memorandum Of Understanding. They really don't require the crew force to vote them in.... the MEC can do that directly. They just tacked them on the the TA.

FOQA does require approval from us. ASAP can be agreed to by ALPA without a vote.

Ok, let's vote down the TA and vote for FOQA LOA. Easy enough.

She...."What's that mean?"
He..."my hourly pay goes up"
She...."great, a raise"
He..."no, it's a years of service increase in my hourly pay rate".
She...."whatever"
A rose by any other name.......

Maybe we'll be able to negotiate a FULL TA sooner than expected (including work rules) if we vote NO?
From tonight's ALPA fastread ...
When the U.S. House of Representatives considers the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization bill (H.R. 658) next week, a proposed amendment is expected to exempt some all-cargo and charter air carriers from the FT/DT rule.
