I call that apolitical, you may call it whatever you like.
"Facts, at any rate, could not be kept hidden. They could be tracked down by inquiry, they could be squeezed out of you by torture. But if the object was not to stay alive but to stay human, what difference did it ultimately make? They could not alter your feelings, for that matter you could not alter them yourself, even if you wanted to. They could lay bare in the utmost detail everything that you had done or said or thought; but the inner heart, whose workings were mysterious even to yourself, remained impregnable."

There are good schools in Memphis. Like 3 of them. And all the parents get their kids into them by a voucher type system. By Shelby County Schools do not have this option.
By surrendering their charter, the MCS will give up this ability and make those 3 schools bad too. They really didn't think that through....IMHO it was a purely political move. An idiotic move...

We live in Collierville and really like it. The kids go to Houston High and Bailey Station. My wife is a sub at Bailey Station Elementary and we are very pleased with what they have to offer. My oldest graduated from Houston last year and is going to a college in the UT system. The top grad from her class is going to Harvard. I hated commuting and am glad we moved here.

My wife and I bought a house in Collierville with the thoughts of kids in mind (even though we are in the "dogs" stage). My wife and I BOTH went to Houston (03') and live down the street from Collierville High. No reservations.
I have lived in MEM for 20+ years and do NOT regret any bit of eastern Shelby County. I had good number of ECS and CBHS buddies and all of them admit to their folks "throwing money at the underlying issue". If you are concerned about your kids- send them out east and to college. They will find themselves there with a good background.
