Default I pads for ALASKA

Just read about this most interesting tidbit yesterday on the web, it seems that ALASKA is going to provide I PADS for its crewmembers, in hopes of FAA blessings, so they can get rid of the numerous piles of binders (paper) ................. Where is OUR I Pad ???

Not going to happen. Already heavily invested in EFB. Go to Fleet Status to see if your jet has one.

Actually, I heard someone in the training department say a VP told them it was "in the works" and pretty far along. Here's hoping that rumor is true. Wasn't sure if they were buying them or allowing them to be used in the cockpit as an EFB. Either way...is good.

Current word is that iPad is undergoing certification process to allow it's use in all flight phases. No details on how long this will take. Also saw the LIDO app in action recently, and heard that the company might spring for the subscription to make that work. Yes, it's all good.

You gotta provide your own iPad.

Don't worry, you'll still be allowed to use paper Lido charts

Wasn't clear.

They are working on getting them approved and that is nearly done.

They are not going to buy them for the pilots.

In short, if you have one, you'll be able to use it. That is the extent of what they are working on.

No major has been approved for the use of IPads or any other laptop for navigation data. The issues are: 1) that the Feds want to have each pilot have his own data, not share and 2) the Feds will not approve a device that doesn't have an STC'd mounting mechanism to prevent becoming a moving object in the cockpit.

Some non-scheds or biz jet types are using them for nav data, but they are securing them to their knees like the 1950's style knee boards.
