New Seniority Numbers - FDX
#12
That number will be low if you are using the average. The law was recently enacted and the numbers will be skewed to the low side until we reach beyond the 5 year point after the law was enacted.
Many pilots at all carriers have been affected by the age 60 rule. It depends on your seniority but many, including myself, found themselves in a 5 year holding pattern with very little movement. I had hopes of being a wide body captain with some quality of life for the last 5 years of my career at FedEx. I consider that a reasonable goal. For me my hand has been forced. I am not in the left seat yet but was able to hold it near the bottom on bid 11-01. For me to reach my "reasonable" goal of 5 years in the left seat after a 5 year holding pattern, I must go beyond age 60 to attain that and my high 5. It wasn't in my plan until the law changed. In a few short years the rule and not the exception will be most guys retiring at 65. For the junior guys on the property you are going to have to face that reality and most likely you will be one of those guys retiring at 65. Please respect the ones ahead of you that were forced down that road.
