At least FEDEX/ALPA had a means to keep their junior pilots on property. It wasn't what anyone wanted, but at least you were getting a check and not flying in BFE. UPS/IPA just let their 109 go. There was some delay and negotiations, but when the time came to put up or shut up, 109 hit the street. Pilot unions are about as effective as a child's temper tantrum. Evil, stay in the AF and get your retirement.

IPA didn't let anyone go...it was the decision of a bean counting board of directors who, unlike Fred have decided to yield market share in the interest of short term gains. Many years ago St. Fred was quoted to say that if UPS only learned to treat their employees like mere human beings they would bury Fed Ex, and he was right. Lest you forget you work for a business that just happens to need you right now...it ain't no hobby, sport.

Oh my...reality is a ***** sometimes. Some of you guys are under the impression that companies are only in existence to enrich you...enjoy it while you suit their agenda.

FedEx Corp. (FDX),operator of the world’s biggest cargo airline, dropped the most in 2 1/2 years after cutting its full-year profit forecast amid declining demand in the U.S. and Asia.

Per-share earnings for the year will be $6.25 to $6.75, 10 cents lower than the previous range, the Memphis, Tennessee-based company said today in a statement. Analysts had projected $6.35, the average of estimates in a Bloomberg survey.

FedEx, an economic bellwether that delivers goods ranging from mobile devices to financial documents, saw U.S. shipments fall for the second quarter in a row as the economy grew at a lower rate than it estimated. Demand dropped for Asian technology products, especially from China, hurting the express international division.

“From talking to our customers, -- the retailers, the manufacturers and so forth --the primary driver of the reduced demand is the lower sales of electronic products,” Chief Executive Officer Fred Smith said on a conference call. “We expect sluggish economic growth will continue.”

FedEx fell $5.92, or 8.2 percent, to $66.58 at 4:15 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading, the biggest decline since March 6, 2009. Rival United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) slipped 3.4 percent to $62.17. FedEx has declined 28 percent this year, while UPS has dropped 14 percent.

While FedEx continues to open new bases, buy new aircraft, and hire new pilots. On the other hand you have UPS, which is doing none of those things.

brb, buying more FDX stock.

I do believe Evil said he wanted a job.

Everyone knows UPS will still have pilots on furlough or will be threatening to do it again so talking about them here just comes across as a loud buzz.

I predict a revolving door at UPS when, or if, hiring starts again.

I'm sure management will be livid and am looking forward to it.

The wonderful  part will be the IPA not putting a thing in their contract to help prevent future furloughs. So, yes, they are complicit. Just like many ALPA pilot groups. They don't give management a mechanism to deal with a slowdown.

Enjoy making fun of FedEx again during the next 4a2b. That mindset tells me all I need to know.

"I've got mine, forget about you!"

First, I'm not your Sport.

Second, we all do our turn at the bottom. You need to remember to give the fodder at the bottom some respect, your seniority is built from the pilots junior to you.

Third, any captain that actually beleives that they are in thier seat by anything more than good luck and timing is delusional. Me, you or any other captain.

It's easy to be smug when you're on top. You nor I have any idea where the UPS or FedEx pilot group will be in 10 years.

You're right SPORT....It is very serious business....for me. I am a "For Profit" operation. My "shareholders" (family) expect me to maximize my yield while still being competitive enough not to price myself out of the market. Margins are everything....trip rig, duty rig etc.

Lest these companies forget that they employ people who happen to think it is worthwhile to work for them right now. No Buck....No Buck Rogers.

Bob you sound like you are under the impression that we are only in existence to work for these companies right now. This is employment....not a calling. And that my friend....is a *****. Especially for someone like you that obviously defines your existence by your job.

Really, I try to deliver a premium product to my employer for an excellent price......they should enjoy that while it suits my agenda. FedEx has a motto....People, Service, Profit....while some may laugh and say that is long gone, imagine where UPS will be if it continues to anger it's work force.

An employer/employee relationship should be symbiotic. Far from being a socialist....I am a capitalist. I think you can make the most money that way.

Sideshow conveniently left out this part.

Net income rose 22 percent to $464 million or $1.46 per share in the three-month period, compared with $380 million, or $1.20 per share, a year earlier. Revenue rose 11 percent to $10.52 billion.
Doom and gloom I know.

Sideshow,

You are so out of touch with a prospective newhire's perspective it's almost beyond comprehension.

Just kidding guys...How 'bout we all take a breather from this battle?...Or we could start another mil vs. civ thread...;)
