While I am an ALPA member in good standing, I am often confused how spending a sh!t load of our dues getting the current administration elected, now they are sorry what they wished for...??? I am grateful for anything they have done for me and they (I think) are grateful for what I have done for them but, whose side are they on??? FWIW

The phrase that comes to mind is "nattering nabobs and lickspittle lapdogs".

There is ZERO dues money that goes to get ANYONE elected. The PAC is a different story.

Zero is a strong word. I believe the union is free to spend dues money on "membership education". I'll bet the education money probably favors a particular party by about the same 87% as the PAC money.

Got anything to back that up? Zero is a strong word and I stand by it. ZERO dues money goes to any political candidate.

Call the union and ask them "Can Alpa spend dues money to educate members and their families during an election?" Dont forget your original quote was "There is ZERO dues money that goes to get ANYONE elected."

Take a look at the glossy mag from 2004 or 2008. Think that was paid for with PAC money?

Default ALPA involvement in tax issues

Again, it is of concern to about 200 million citizens, but ALPA? There is only so much time and money, but then again if that is what ALPA pilots want to fight, so be it.

Disclaimer - I belong to another union.
Seems to me that this is an issue that I WANT a mass response to, rather than sitting quietly on the sidelines and letting the mor*ns in Washington s(&$@#)rew us in new and evermore interesting ways. ALPA's PAC donations will probably cover most, if not all of the expense of lobbying against this further effort to "make all animals equal, but some are more equal than others." The PAC is designed to do just this kind of thing.

Too bad that you don't get that the purpose of a union is to work to protect not only your career, but also your lifestyle. Any effort taken to control the absurd "spend, then tax" mentality in Washington has my full support.

If that was ALPA's concern, why did they back the guy sitting in the White House in the first place? Even my 11 yr old son could see that this guy wasn't qualified to be in the Oval Office.

If they were truly concerned about my "lifestlyle" (and not just my dues money) they would have supported a candidate that didn't have "I'm here to redistribute the wealth" blatantly painted across his forehead. Now ALPA seems shocked and surprised that he is actually trying to make "all animals equal"....

One reason may have been because the other guy sponsored a bill for "baseball style" arbitration which is a huge advantage to companies that have union contracts to negotiate. FWIW, I don't like the guy in the WH either and saw quite clearly he was totally unqualified to do anything that didn't involve a teleprompter or inciting class warfare. I voted for the other guy not because I thought he was awesome but because he was the only alternative. Some times you just have to pick your poisons. While ALPA never formally endorsed BO, I can see why they would have rather have had him in office then the guy who called airline pilots greedy and unpatriotic while sponsoring a bill to make forced arbitration with no appeals the law of the land. YMMV
