Two recommendations: find out what your friends and colleagues use - the ones the will be around when you have questions. If everybody in your crash pad has an Android phone , that may be enough right there. Also, find out which apps you'd like to use. These aren't really phones so much as pocket computers, so, for example, if FxCal is the key app then you want an iPhone. The apps are going to make the phone more than specs or operating system.
Carriers aren't an issue for the iPhone anymore; I heard today that even Cellular South is getting the iPhone, too. All iPhone 4S are CDMA and GSM, so even a Sprint iPhone should be able to accept a foreign SIM card. But I bet it will be sim locked, unless you JB it. |
Wait a few more weeks for the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.0.

I also read that at least the initial 4S that were bought without a contract from an Apple store, where unlocked. |

Real nice Computerworld article on tethering:
Wi-Fi tethering 101: Use a smartphone as a mobile hotspot - Computerworld And to reiterate, I believe this to be a neutral for Droid vs iPhone.... Both do it out of the box, both can be configured to not pay your carrier their dues if you choose.... I have AT&T $45 for 4Gig and share that between MacBookAir,iPad,iPhone. Tethering also allows me to share my international $25 for 50meg between all three devices as needed. Very handy. (Just be careful if you are tethering your Mac/PC to an international plan, as many processes check stuff in the background and can eat up your plan) |
appDude,
You've probably answered this already, but I can't recall... Are you planning on developing a droid version of FxCal? If so, when? Thanks. |

I am a Sprint customer. If I buy an unlocked Apple iPhone 3GS 8GB Smartphone, will it work with my Sprint plan/system?
My Blackberry just does not get it done. iPhone 4s is the only phone to work on Sprint |
