Default Ipad 2 or Galaxy 10.1 ?

About to pull the trigger on either one of these but I'm on the fence.
Who's using what out there? Pro's Con's of each?

The iPad seems to be the industry standard (and seemingly the aviation front runner). What makes you consider the Galaxy? Cheaper price?

If that's why, the tech world rumor mill says that Apple is about to come out with a lower priced iPad to compete with the new color Kindle. If I were a betting man, I'd bet it might be in time for Xmas (if you can wait that long?).

YMMV

Have not used the Galaxy, but like I have said many times to pilots who ask, for what we do in and out everyday the iPad is perfect.

The iPad is definitely a very slick piece of hardware/software.

The Android OS tablets, JUST LIKE THE ANDROID OS PHONES are quickly catching up to their Apple counterpart. I love my iPhone and my Macbook, but for a tablet I prefer an Android one, for 2 simple reasons really. 1) File transfer is easier, way easier due to simple drag and drop since Android devices show up as external drives. At least the ones I've used do. Couple this with most Android tabs have USB ports, most having the mini and some of the larger tablets have a full size. And 2), the OS supports Flash. I know I know, "flash is going away/dying out". Yep, but not fast enough.

Tablets 2011 - TopTenREVIEWS
I traded my iPad (first gen) for a Motorola Xoom, which is practically the same thing as the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The big reasons why I went to Android and got away from Apple were similar to what xjetguy said. I read a lot of current event websites, and many use Flash. It sucks that just because Steve Jobs doesn't like Flash that I can't watch news video, for example. Flash is everywhere and isn't going away anytime soon.

iTunes blows and everyone, even the Apple community, knows that- although many won't admit it publicly With the Xoom, you just drag and drop files just like xjetguy says. When you plug the Tab in to your home computer, it will show up as if it is a big thumb drive. You just drag the files where you want and you're good to go.

The Xoom has expandable memory if you buy a microSD card. With the iPad, you're stuck with 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB and the jump in price between those storage capacities are much larger than the cost of a simple microSD card.

Android is much more customizable than the Apple OS. You can have "live wallpaper" for example, which I think is pretty cool (google it or check out in the Android store). You can put different widgets on your Android device to make it "look nice." For example, check out "beautiful widgets" and see all the different things you can do to customize the look of your device. With the Apple, you're stuck with a rigid grid of icons.

In conclusion, I would say that if you're the type of person that likes to "play around" with computers, Android and the 10.1 or Xoom would be the way to go. If you just want a device that "is what it is" and does that very well, go with the Apple.

Got a 7" Tab myself. As others have said, more flexibility; drag and drop, no itunes, etc. And, if you are semi geeky, you can run a custom rom that roots the system and opens up features that the telcos lock out....

The Overcome Experience

And, lots of customization and extra features....

Can't do Jepps on an Android, GAME OVER! Jepp says, currently, iPad is the only way they are supporting.

You can do Lido. Save the PDF and drag it onto the tab.

The iPad is far superior on battery life, this alone made me go apple. I plan on using the iPad for mostly entertainment uses on ling flights. My company also issues all of our manuals, etc. for consumption on CD with all of them being .pdf's. I can easily move these to my iPad and reference them easily and rapidly.

Android is notorious for eating up battery life, I have an android phone and this is true. The whole file transfer thing is easily overcome by using a dropbox app or one of the many other apps available for this. I did look at several other tablets, but the iPad, for me, had everything that I wanted and is a very stable, light, machine.
