Default FDX - DPs and Substitution?

I have a week long sub window starting tomorrow. I was offered a decent trip and accepted it. Tonight however I was subsequently assigned 2 back to back DPs. I didn't think they could assign DP's on Sub. If I turn those down, does it go to OTP or general makeup? Thanks.

Check the contract and any attached scheduling LOA's . That's where I'd start if I was going to try and get a good answer for you.

My understanding is you can only be assigned a DP if you are a reserve or on standby. Unless, of course you ask for one. So, you shouldn't need to turn them down. They should not have been assigned to you.

Here's a link on the ALPA website:

If you decline after the original pairing showtime you are, generally, not eligible for OTP. Depends on scheduled or actual block in time of the trip prior to your subbed trip.

Being in sub might be considered a form of reserve for DP assignment purposes.

I was assigned a dp on sub a few years back. I called contract enforcement and that's what they said. When you're in sub you are basically on reserve, except you can decline the trip. Of course you lose trip guarantee if you do.

You don't lose guarantee - you just move to OTP status - you get paid and have to "pay back" the hours 2 months later.

IF you decline the trip prior to the showtime of the original pairing.

Contract enforcement is just a branch of Flight Management that gets paid by union dues.

This is what Scheduling would like you to believe.....and what, unfortunately, many pilots believe.

Pilots need to be very familiar with the nuances in the SUB portion of our contract.

It is NOT just like Reserve, but scheduling will try to treat you that way if you allow it.

I think there is definitely room for improvement in the SUB section of our contract.

Easy Fix. Lose a trip due to a legality that's thru no fault of your own, You Get paid and go home.
