FedEx Question?
#41
I was a internal hire stay the course. I worked at FedEx for 10 yrs while I built my time and went to college. I changed jobs at FedEx to get into flight ops and just kept at it. I did the corporate gig on my days off, it starts off slow but will build in time. I would suggest going to one of the road shows that pilot hiring attends such as air inc, obap?, women in aviation. Go and introduce yourself to John, Kim & Amy who run the office and network as much as you can. You will get an interview before anyone on the outside if we are hiring. The mins can change in a moments notice so keep looking at the postings and start preping for the interview. As far as the "Token Thing" don't worry just show up prepaired, be professional and operate per the CFM & FOM. Most guys like me don't care about your background, race etc just are you a good pilot! For the rest who cares.
DC,
I would be interested in hearing more about how to utilize "getting in" to my advantage. I am currently with FedEx doing as you suggest. I am an equipment operator. I got lucky enough to be hired straight into the position without throwing boxes, because of my aircraft experience, but when the sort backs up and the plane leaves we have to spend our time in the trenches. I also have friends that are flying for FedEx. Your advice would be GREATLY appreciated along with anyone else.

Thanks a lot. I was hoping to hear from someone who had taken the same path. That helps me in my decision matrix.

The "token" guys I've helped prep (as you call them...not me) have all been VERY sharp. One recent guy was former Navy/former Jetblue, and was dang sharp. A civilian type I helped left Contiental to join our team--and was likewise outstanding.
FYI--I also had a former client and OBAP member bust out of the sim. I think our interview process is very fair and quite tough. If you can make it through our process, I don't think ANYONE will look at you as a "quota baby". If anyone does call anyone hired since 2002 a "quota kid", I've got more than enough anecodotal evidence of people from ALL walks of life who have been shown the door after the sim eval. So--those who are here earned it--and anyone here gets my complete respect.
PM me if you want details. Press on and best of luck!

Albie and HFB,
Thanks to both of you for the offers of help and info. I have not reached the magical number of 25 posts, so I can't PM yet. You can reach me by e-mail at [email protected]. That will also bounce to my blackberry.
