This is sound advice.

Get in line NOW!

You need not make a purchase until you're at the front, and someone is offering you the daily special.

Sadly, the bulk of the AA furloughs will be the red tails again-former TWA.

Paraphrased, "We did it to you, because we can" Capt Ed White.

Edited to assume that you are talking about the AA bankruptcy and what they do. It still sucks.

If most of the guys coming to FDX are former TWA guys, then good for them. Coming here is the best career move they have made in the last ten years.

What I have seen is that most of the furloughed guys at FedEx are the "NAAtive Americans" type. Not judging that, but it is what it is.

Content: Apply now for anyone who is even thinking about coming here. You know more people than you think, and time is of the essence.

Was this stated at a public pilot meeting? Just wondering if it is hearsay or not.

Baja - it's best not to take the bait on this one.....it's totally N/A to the original poster's question/topic anyway - plenty of other threads/forums you can read where this dead horse has been pounded into oblivion

Having done both job's, pax and cargo, get the best of both worlds. Apply now and get the retirement at age 50 before you start here. We (FDX) have a couple guys hired in 2004-2006 who retired from NWA, DAL and AA..they are very very happy. We have several guys who were furloughed and have been by-passing recall at DAL and AA and when they turn 50 they will retire and enjoy those benefits. Many guy here evnythem. I know too many old dudes (age 60+) at FDX that have over 25 years here and won't leave because they can't give up the travel benefits. When you retire at FDX you better jumpseat home before 8:00am the day after you retire or you will be driving it. Depending who you are, the pass travel can become addictive, and loosing them will hurt a little. Those who say you can stop being so cheap and just buy a ticket with all the big money you will be making have not really taken advantage of the life style. Also if you do get hired at FDX and get an FDA as your first assignment you and your family will really be happy you have the pass travel. Hope that helps.

Sorry DLax85, but that is NOT sound advice for those who value friends.

You are well aware that those serious about getting an interview at FEDEX will ask for a referral. Asking a really good friend to refer you for the job, and then deciding not to do it, is something many of us would never even consider.

The AA pilot is doing right by deciding first.

I hope, for their sake, this isn't true. If it is, they'll be fired. Reference ALPA's "amnesty" program from a while back dealing with furloughees and resigning from your previous airline. They already gave us one mulligan after a NWA furloughee decided not to resign and took money from NWA and used pass privileges while at FedEx. He didn't get fired, but (from what I understand) he had to pay back the money and the imputed income from the travel benefits he used. I don't think the company will be so benevolent next time.

Dead Horse maybe to you, kind sir....reality for the 2nd and 3rd time (furlough) for many former TWA pilots.

Yes, it was stated by Capt Ed White at a union meeting in St. Louis while explaining the framework of Supp CC and how the TWA pilots would be stapled to the seniority list.

The BK at AMR is a very distressing time for the employees there. With varying degrees of uncertainty based on one's seniority and personal life, the road ahead will be stressful. The former TWA pilots have transversed this road a few times and have seen the outcome. Many NAAtives are experiencing this for the first time and can experience first-hand some of the path previously traveled by their "stapled" co-workers. The reaon for the major riff between the two pilot groups is because the APA/AA pilots orchestrated the seniority list integration which placed the former TWA pilots in the crosshairs of the furloughs in 2003, 2009, and now. Furthermore, as the unions head towards what would appear binding arbtrn., Supp CC (the only crumb given to the TWA pilots-seniority protection in St. Louis) looks to be dissolved. Hence many have read on various forums how the AICA (2nd pilot union on AMR's property) is trying to get a voice at the creditors table to protect this crumb. For the APA to protect Supp CC would show that they represent the former TWA pilots as if they were their own....so far its' existence is in jeopardy. AMR has appauled Capt White's divisive comments because they only served to divide and weaken the pilot group into two groups fighting each other for their respective survival.

Lastly, I do not wish ill-will on any pilot or pilot group. I just hope this stressful situation enlightens the APA what their integration of the former TWA pilots did to their lifestyles for the last 10 years and how they should fight to preserve Supp CC in St. Louis.

"Dead horse" as in it has been beaten & beaten over & over again here on APC and on many other internet forums - including APA's own closed board C & R

Maybe it's not "dead" (for you) - it is for me and many others.....but my point was that the topic you are stirring up isn't really relevant to this conversation as to what the Original Poster was asking - which was (to refresh your memory)...

Question for former AA pilots now at FedEx

Thinking of jumping ship after 13 years at AA and heading to FedEx, if they will have me.. Any former APA guys/gals currently at FedEx with some pros and cons?? Currently 48 y/o and just a bit worried..

Thanks,
Ed

Perhaps you should interject your comments about the former TWA pilots, and what Ed White had to say almost (more than?) 10 years ago, into another thread or another forum where the comments might be more pertinent.

I was a "NAAtive" at American - hired in 2000, and furloughed, and moved on to FedEx (thank the Lord FedEx hired me.) I had a newhire classmate at AA who had quit TWA (after 5 years w/TWA) and got himself hired at AA with me in 2000. I'm completely/painfully familiar with it all.

And, none of it is germane to this discussion or the Original Poster's question.

That's what I meant by "dead horse". Having said that, it's your right to continue beating it wherever you please.
