Whoa is for horses. Woe is me.
I saw two captains the other day in ops that were good examples of what packagecheck is talking about. One had on military combat boots and the other had full-on sh it kickers poking out the end of his pants. A tad ridiculous.

I agree that the uniform shouldn't be the number one issue for our new management. I have heard that they are thinking of making some changes but I think the bigger issue that management is concerned with is enforcement of our current guidelines. Ya know, the lovely black tennis shoes, no ties, or someones own leather jacket etc. I personally don't have issue that we have a lot of variations. I think the parka is a perfect example. Why would you have someone in ANC wear the blouse when it is 20 below. I'm not a fan of the leather jacket, I prefer the flasher's wool coat but to some the leather jacket is the all around winner. Whatever the combo is, I just think if we would wear it the way that it is supposed to be worn, this might go away or at least die down. Is it really asking to much to have a few guys iron their shirts once in a while?
As to the jeans on international flights, years ago to travel in first class, it was full uniform or sport coat and tie. I don't want to go back to that. Is a pair of slacks or dockers really asking to much?

We all know that better dressed doesn't mean better aviator, but would it hurt us to try and look a litter classier? Really as with most of these threads, it's less that 10% that are the issue, but when you have 200 identical penguins in flight ops and one or two decide to wear fur coats and not shave for a week. It is noticed.

Maybe if we step up to the plate and give a good impression, then this issue would be put to rest and then management would have to concentrate on bigger issues.

might be like trying to herd cats.....

I agree with what you're saying, but I think management is missing the point here. We have MUCH more important issues to be discussed and acted upon, instead of worrying about how our "outfits are coordinated".....

I'm just sayin'

I like the parka ... I'll be disappointed if they get rid of it.

I guess it's part of the new management philosophy ...

More important issues. Parking lots are next. Democrat will close down to pilots who will now park across from Thulahoma. And walk? Other lots to close. Just look at the construction. Move your junk car threats are out.

They are who we think they are. Small players with big egos. No operational input. Difference between the Boy Scouts and us adult leadership.

I too suspect we will get kicked out of the Democrat parking lot and moved (probably to Thulahoma). I'm curious why you think we'd be required to walk? My thought was that it might be a shorter/easier bus ride if the crew buses can use the entrance by the FAA? (or maybe take the Thulahoma bridge to a crew bus stop?).

I'm a bit worried we could be moved to the Gucci building parking lot making our bus ride MUCH longer ...

These guys come and go.

Clearly BM has chosen to go down the path of not making a difference in anything that matters.

This must be what he meant by "unparalleled support".

We have had this discussion before. Full on sh it kickers are authorized as long as:

1. They are shined regularly.

2. They have a plain black toe.

3. Said captain wearing them is not a cowboy and/or does not use them to play tennis or practice medicine.

From the FOM: Shoes / boots should be shined regularly.

From the Uniform Policy: The approved uniform shoe must be a black plain toe dress shoe or dress boot. Cowboy boots, tennis shoes, Doc Martens, and similar footwear are not approved for wear...

Shoulda seen how he was dressed for a ride on my Jumpseat recently - jeans, sneakers, tan trench coat and looked like he hadn't shaved in a few days (it was a Sunday afternoon). He missed us at the folder and was sitting at the bottom of the crew stairs at the jet when the bus dropped us off. He looked like a hitch hiking hobo. :) I was glad for the prescedent actually. :D
