The Alaskan stop may have added transit time, but skyrocketing fuel costs have ironically provided an advantage. Planes on ultralong flights have to carry so much fuel to cover the distance that it can be cheaper to make a stop, carrying less fuel and more cargo.
Not if you're turning one less engine.
